Default You guys with roof racks on your xB?

I got the Yakima rack as a dealer option, dealer installed, about a month ago when I bought my car. When I took it off today because I wont be using it for a while, and I like it better off, there were dents in my roof from where the rack was. Am I the only one with this? Is there anything I can do about it?

dealer option, dealer installed, dealer problem

sounds like they get to fix it!

I hadn't heard of this yet, but it is quite imaginable.

Ill try to get pics. The dents are one the roof, from the rear part of the rack, on the roof its self, on the inside of the gutters

Thing i'm worried about is, I live 2000 miles from the dealer I bought the car from.. Think another dealer with take the hit? Or am I gonna be screwed.

If it is a dealer installed option, you can take it to any Scion dealer...wether they will question how the dents got there? I would just call the dealer where you got it and explain the situation....they SHOULD tell you it's okay to take it to another dealer. Good Luck!

Ill call em and see. They've been jerkin me around since I bought the car. The day after I took the car home I found a long (but subtle) scratch along the passenger side. I would have buffed it out but its under the paint protector they applied. Ive been trying to get someone to call me back about that forever now.

Or just leave them on all the time. I think the box looks cool with racks.

was the box used, and the rack on the car when you first saw it?

dealers oftentimes use 'upgrades' like this to cover up existing damage that they don't want to fix...

got pics yet? ttiwwop

It was brand new and I had to wait a week for them to get me the rack and install it. There wasn't a rack when the car as delivered.

well, then that's awesome... should be pretty simple to repair. I'd take it to the dealer with the rack on, just the way you took delivery.

I don't think that dent was caused by the Yakama. It is not at a touch point for the rack.

it looks like it may have been cause by something falling off the rack or placed in a rack basket. The basket sits pretty close to the roof on the Yakama.

Yes it is a touch point for the rack, as I would know since I just took it off, its where the largest base point of the rack with rubber touches. Nothing has been loaded onto the rack yet, i've only had the car a couple weeks. And i'm deploying so I took it off as to not have the paint fade unevenly (like with people who have bras on there cars forever) and saw the dents as I was taking the racks off.

I didn't read the entire post... but what kind of roof rack do you have?

Yakima roof racks attach near the sides of the roof, not in the middle like that.

and even if it does, it shouldn't leave a dent like that.

In any case, I'd definitely take it back to the dealer... and you better do it soon, otherwise they'll blame you for it.

Good luck man!

That is definitely not a touch point for the yakima rack. Either that or my rack is hanging on to the sides of the roof for dear life !
