Lids arrived today and although not quite perfect, pretty close (couple very small black dots on one), I rewashed the nose, studied the fit, and installed the lids. You can definitely see the variation in Toyota manufacturing tolerances when installing something like this. Of course, this isn't a high cost car and so I guess the variation is to be expected. I had to loosen the right front fender mounting bolt under the hood and pull it out as far as I could to reduce the gap where the fender meets the eyelid (requiring touchup paint around the bolt). The meeting with the hood works out pretty much perfectly, just the fender produces variability. Here's a photo.

I rewashed the area and waxed it including the lids. My impression is they work well with the car. Perhaps even better than I hoped.
EDIT: I ended up having a problem with the lids not adhering securely to the lamp assemblies. After retrying a couple times, I went to Home Depot and picked up a roll of 1"x60" Scotch/3M "Interior/Exterior Mounting Tape". I cut off two strips a little less than half the length of the eyelid, and then split each down the middle for each lid. Be careful with eyelid positioning though, after it's on, this stuff doesn't let go too easily
. If you have to do any repositioning, be sure to lift very carefully working along behind the lid. Avoid significant flexing of the lid, you don't want to risk damaging the paint..

Glad you got them Trevor.
the double sided tape.. never use that much.. unless u are planning on keeping them on
The Paint is the right paint for plastic so it will flex with the eyelid..
And the way the car is built its not perfect. the lights are off so it make our eyelids seem like there off.

The lids come with a length of 3M double sided tape, though I ended up having to use something a little different in my case. If you don't usually use double sided tape, then what do you use? (Good to know the paint is tolerant of significant flexing
.) Also, are you aware of any particular reason why I might not want to keep them on? My investment in the eyelids was much the same as in the rear spoiler and mudguards, that is to say, a permanent part of the car.
Didn't notice a problem with the light assemblies, just the fenders, though I guess you could interpret it either way. My approach was to install the eyelid as accurately as I could to the lighting assembly, and then I had to adjust the forward portion of the right fender (passenger side) to improve the overall fit. Fact is, the front of the left fender was actually positioned more outward than the right (referencing the hood), even though the underhood fender mounting bolts were about equally centered. So, I effectively just tried for fender to fender parity -- the eyelid to fender gap pretty much just followed along
!
By the way, my compliments to your design efforts, they worked out nicely

what I was saying is never use that much double sided tape for a piece such as the eyelids.. you only need very minimal tape on various points on the eyelids. That 3m tape you used can hold on huge wings and you practicaly have to break the wings off to remove it. The eyelids are flat and dont over hang like a wing does so I wouldnt use so much tape.
The reason I said that i only would use that mach tape is if you want it permennt is some peoplel ike to clean under it from time to time Like I do or some just one day part ot the car and would want to remove it in that sitiuatation.
we appreciate you input

Using half the included tape (four pieces per lid), the left lid was holding OK accept for the rearward tip, whereas the right came free and then fell off after I washed it. I put some effort into cleaning, but I didn't apply isopropyl alcohol, perhaps I should have. Since it wasn't that hard to remove the relatively securely attached left, I was also concerned some person might decide they wanted some freebies
I anticipate eventually one of the lighting assemblies may need replacement and the lid may require surgery on the tape, but at least, the lids are highly unlikely to find themselves on someone else's car
!
Believe it or not, the driver's side rear of the eyelid came free again, so perhaps my install wasn't as overdone as some might think
! However, the look is perfect on my xB2 and I've received a couple compliments on a couple other forums. Bottom line is I definitely recommend these lids if you think they could work with your xB2. No doubt they aren't the right thing for everyone, but they are perfect if they fit your xB2 vision.

As it is, the rest of the tape appears to be holding very securely, so I'm not too concerned with the slight lift at the very back of the one lid.
