Default Aftermarket moonroof on xB 2nd-Gen

Hi,

Just got a xB this week in San Antonio. Dealership had one on the lot with aftermarket sunroof installed, liked it. Gotta have moonroof (wife wants it, part of the reason I talked her into the xB over a Rav4 was promise of moonroof - which would have required a Rav4 Sport which is a lot more $)

The dealer wants $1299 for the moonroof.

They implied it wouldn't void the warranty of the car if I get through them.

Anything I should be aware of getting one of these?

I'll try to get pictures of their moonroof setup next time I visit the dealership, didn't think of that until now.

Thank you.

We do them all the time. Our aftmarket vendor even backs it up with the same Toyota Bumper to Bumper warranty as if its part of the car. I wouldnt worry about it

Check out the place you plan to have the work done thoroughly. I had a sunroof put in my gen 1 and it was nothing but trouble the entire time. Some people have great experiences but I've heard more times than not they cause trouble. I had a Webasto Hollandia700 installed and this is the list of problems I had:
1. it leaked
2. the glass kept falling in on one side
3. the control module would randomly reset and lose the auto open positions
4. on hot days the sunroof wouldn't open inward because of roof expansion

There's nothing the shop could do about #4. There's a lot of metal up there and it will expand. I'd recommend getting the panoramic sunroof. The design will prevent these problems from happening.

^ same here, and $1299 seems reasonable. I had a dealer quote me for like $2500 for a huge sunroof - and I LOL'd so hard.

I have one installed through the dealer. It's a Webasto Hollandia 700 series with 5 buttons (two for auto-open memorized position), and multiple-height rear end tilt-up.
I didn't notice whether or not the xB already had a roof deflection, so I can't tell you whether or not the sunroof causes greater deflection or not. I do notice the deflection however.

It auto-closes when you turn the car power off, which may be a good thing if you're forgetful.

I think it's an awesome feature to have, since not that many people have it.

I wouldn't do it. If anything go ragtop, but you'd better have a garage for it when the weather gets bad.

I would check with Dealer Source in San Antonio. They charge the dealer and they in turn charge you more. I'm sure that is where they are getting it done. I had my leather done there and it looks awesome.

I don't see why a dual-panel sunroof from a Mini couldn't be grafted on to an xB. I have a Mini with a sunroof and it's completely flat and huge. Tilts and slides. You just need to find one.

Personally, I like the sliding canvas roof idea. Streetbeatcustoms.com has ones that would work for the xB. It would also go well on a woodie themed xB.

I personally wouldn't do so just because the best aftermarket sunroof companies still leak or develop problems, but if you do, stick to webasto or asc

those look nice... the Scion dealer said they can add one for $1499... I wonder if I should get one done with them or that other company for $1299? ~_^
