Default How do you think this looks?

I bought this spoiler on Ebay (2 bolt aftermarket). I spent considerable amount of time positioning it and where it was mounted is the only position that it would work (pointing points flush and centered). I might add that this spoiler is a chinese aftermarket and to me does not look right. To me it looks just ok, but what is really eating at me is the fact that at the ends of the spoiler there is a huge 1" gap between the front edge and the body. You can actually see the glass in this gap. The factory spoiler goes all the way to the body and there is a tiny gap. The damage is done, the holes are drilled, so this will have to do it for me. Before you say "then why didn't you just get the factory one"? Economics. This one painted was $130. Factory one is $300. I am probably making a big deal out of it, but just want some opinions on how it looks.

It doesn't look too bad, does it seal the holes by 3M tape on the perimeter?

Here ya go. They were pleasant to deal with. If you have a standard color (as listed in the auction) it is only $90 painted. What a deal.

That fact that you saved over half the price compared to purchasing the marked-up OEM one is a phenomenal deal that makes perfect sense.

I guess Im gonna be the only one so far to say I dont think it looks all that great. Personally Iv learned my lesson with cheap eBay parts.. I bought an eBay catback exhaust, looked decent and sounded okay for about a year, then it rusted out like crazy and cracked.... It was cheap at the time but cost me more in the long run having it replaced... My personal opinion is you get what you pay for, you go cheap, you get cheap. But like everyone else said, if you like it, thats all that really matters...

When it comes to performance mods, you definitely want to buy the legit stuff (I bought the TRD Intake just because it's a Toyota part and if I screwed up something, I'd be under warranty. If I didn't have that fear, I would have settled for a $100 one).

But since this is a spoiler, which is merely a piece of fiberglass or ABS plastic (the eBay one is probably made out of play-doh) and is bolted on as well as secured with 3M tape, it's a VERY good buy.

Since I like smart decisions, I knew that buying this one was a VERY smart decision. Why will I pay more than double the price for virtually the same exact thing? Especially when it's just for looks.

Now if the spoiler design actually had a function and would direct wind down like a real spoiler, then I'd buy the legit one. However, if I wanted this spoiler to actually direct wind down, I would have bought the Rumion one. Since it has no gaps in it, it literally does what it's supposed to do. These spoilers have gaps in them, so it's useless.

You get what you pay for. My spoiler's been on for 2 years with no problems at all. I inspect my job every 6 months and ensure that the screws haven't rusted. However, I painted the holes I drilled to make sure i wouldn't get rust. So I just keep up with it.

yeah usually the warranty issues scare me from ebay, can hardly talk to a human and say an exhaust(stainless) we warranty that for life

It's just a wind deflector, it forces the air to dip down farther away from the rear end, creating a tear drop slipstream. It's not for downforce or high-end peformance, but it looks so JDM.

Its growing on me and now I like it a lot. I ran it through the car wash today with the spinning brushes and the spoiler did not budge. It is ABS by the way and the paint job the ebay folks did was absolutely top notch. I like the design of this spoiler actually better than the factory since this one has a slight arc across the spoiler. It is for looks only, does absolutely nothing for performance. Also, I might ad is that it is completely silent and no wind noise or buffeting. I am waiting for a nice day to take some pics of my ride so I can post.

The paint job is also very close to stock for Classic Silver Metallic.

In essence, I'm more than satisfied with my knock-off spoiler.

I'm not so certain that air gaps between the spoiler/deflector/wing-over-the-window-thingy will be detrimental. Anyone here old enough to remember the Boeing 727? During landing, with all flying surfaces out, there where gaps in the wing big enough for a bowling ball to fall through. Not a lot of metal surface area, but when fully extended, it performed like a very large solid wing. Nostalgia turning off now.

Has anyone actually put a xB2 with spoiler through a wind tunnel to see what the deflector/spoiler actually does? Wonder if there are any computer models we could get our hands on and find out.
