Default Removing taillight tint?

ok so i got pulled over for my window tint and tail light tint. just a fix it ticket. im just going to remove my tint from the front windows, but the tail lights is a diffrent story. is there a safe way to remove it? i just used that crappy spray can ____. i hear goof off works well but i also heard it damages the plastic. heres a forum i saw where to do it:
http://www.onethoughtproductions.com/g35mods/DIY/?p=5

but i keep reading and other people seem to say it damages the light
does anyone know how to do this, or does goof off actuallywork? i heard of paint thinner also but that doesent seem to healthy for the lights, or acetone for that matter. any help will be appreciated!

Ah! DON'T USE THINNER! I did that on my headlight and the results were devastating lol.

I guess you can dilute it but dilute it heavily. I think the safest option is to use a fine grit sandpaper like the wet / dry sandpaper then polish it back to normal by hand or machine.

you can use brakefluid, it should peel off that paint and not damage the plastic

The thinner wont do much damage at first..but try to avoid using it repeatedly ..then you'll have a grand ole time trying to fix it. Once or twice it'll be foggy..but after a couple times it starts causing surface cracks from cutting too deep. I learned my lesson a week or two ago lol. I should have taken pics to show the massive fail.

use brake cleaner, it will take the clear finish off of the tail lights also. Wet sand it with some 600 grit then 1000 grit. U can buy clear coat in the rattle cans. This is exactly what i did when i got my ticket. I have not tinted my tail lights since. Its not worth getting pulled over 24/7
