Default is it safe to put 55w HIDs in the OEM fog lights? will it melt?

hi everybody, i'd like to put 55w HIDs in my OEM fog lights. i know they give off more heat and the fog light housings are smaller than headlight ones so i wanted to ask if it will get too hot and melt anything if i do it. has anybody tried?

I wouldn't recommend it. That's a pretty small enclosure for that much heat.

I've dealt with both, and IMO, the jump to 55W isn't all that great. 35W should be more than sufficient in the fogs.

thanks for the reply, ian. i'm not really concerned of brightness or anything... it's just that i have another set (55w) from my old car that i'll be putting in the headlights. my concern is for the headlights and foglights to match. and in order to do that... i wanted to get the same K color and same wattage. but i guess if the fogs are too small for 55w, i'll just have to deal with unmatching lights.

Keep in mind that the wattage difference causes the color temp to appear warmer than the listed Kelvin temp.

A 55W 8000K kit will look like a 6000K kit... more or less.
