Shark Fin Antenna Question
Hi everyone,
The question I had was, someone broke my antenna and I was wondering if I could replace it with a shark fin. It broke off from the base part so the part that screws in is was pulled out completely. I was wondering about the shark fin because I think it looks better and it would be about 300 to replace the whole part through the dealership.

The shark fin screws into the female threads of the factory base on the roof to connect the fractal antenna inside the shark fin piece, after you have unscrewed the stock short rubber antenna. If the entire female thread piece was pulled out of the base, then you're SOL.

i installed mine a week ago. when i was installing it i put the shark fin antenna on 1st to see how it looks and i didn't like it too much for it being too much foward so i removed the whole base cover and i was able to slide it back more closer to the back so it's closer to the hatch.
all you have to do is pop out the 3 clips from the rear headliner. you can't miss it be sure not to pull down the headliner too hard coz it's quite fragile
then you reach in and look for the a hex nut that hold the whole antenna down and unscrew it. it's just 1 hex nut
once you removed the hex nut you can pull the antenna up a few inches to work with and you'll see there's only 3 or 4 screws at the bottom that connect the antenna cover to the base.
then once you remove the cover you'll see the electronic board and there's a slot that you could just slide the ring on the shark fin in and volla you can play w/how far or how close you want the shark fin to be placed. make sure you have the hatch open so the hatch won't hit the shark fin while you adjust the placement.
by doing it this way you don't have to screw it in to the base since someone f that up for you i think this is your only option.
it worked out fine for me i'm still getting good reception for my radio which i hardly use anyways.
this is just an option for you to do good luck for fixing your antenna and just take your time. try not to use too much force otherwise you'll break something since it's kinda fragile.

i love the look of this antenna! i have sirius (add on) and was wondering if i could mount the sirius antenna under the fin also, or would that completely kill the signal? i'm guessing it would, but not sure if anyone has tried it.

I dont have a satellite radio subscription, but my xb has what I am assuming is the antenna??--a tiny black square mounted on the roof near the back hatch with a wire running into the weather stripping.-- I was also wanting to get a shark fin and put that under it with the regular antenna.

There's not enough extra room to stuff anything under the Shark Fin besides the stock factory antenna base. I've installed a couple of them, and just mounted a friends Shark Fin on his xB2 this morning, so the tight fit is fresh in my mind. There's only about 1/8" of play under the Shark Fin.

Can I use the VG Shark Fin Antenna to cover my Sirius/XM antenna?
Yes, many of our customers have covered their Sirius and XM satellite radio antenna with our VG Shark Fin Antenna for a much more uniform and streamlined look. Your Sirius or XM antenna will have to be small enough to fit under the VG Shark Fin Antenna cover (i.e. Terk SIR-MINI SIRIUS antenna). It will required a slight modification to the shark fin (such as cutting a small groove) to allow the satellite antenna wire to pass through the back. Some customers pass the satellite antenna wire through the original antenna base gasket.

Dont wanna hijack, but I would like to order one and it appears they dont show "blackberry crush" as a color. It appears Maroon Mica (3NO) matches whats on my door. Anyone know if this is right, $69 is a great price.
The paint names on VG's website aren't always correct, but the paint code # is what you want to make sure is the same. If 3NO is the paint code for BCM, then that is what you want to order.

Can we see a pic of it futher back, i thought the spoiler might hit the fin if it was back any more. I have one on my xB but I would move it if it clears.
