Default yakima racks

I was trying to install my yakima roof rack tonight when there was light out and had a problem. I got all the measurements off yakimas website cause my kit didnt come with measurements for my xB2. when I put the fron crossbar on I realized it was kinda off by maybe 2 inches, I put the rest of the rack together and when I was trying to put the lock cores in I realized they didnt lock because something was off by just a hair. I went back and read the manuals and redid my measurements and nothing seemed to work. If anybody has suggestions or has run into the same problem please help I am kinda stuck right now and its too dark to see anything outside. Thanks

first of all before you put your rack on...get some clear bra film....trust me you'll need it.

1.the first q tower should be 11 inches from your windshield to the beginning of your q tower.
2. the second q tower doesn't really matter where it is in relation to the first one as long as you keep it consistent with the left and right side..there is no right or wrong answers with the second.
3. what attachment are you trying to get on the rack? with this answered, you have something to adjust to. FOR EXAMPLE: if you are trying to get a rocketbox 16 on there, you have to measure out 36", 40", 42". IF you are trying to get attachment for some skis or snowboards, it is usually 35" to 36" ....really based on the length of the board you ride as well.
4. the clear bra that i mentioned goes on the roof where the rubber pads come into contact with the car. I have had my rack on for about one month and from all the rain and dust settling and getting inbetween the rubber pads and the paint, it kinda messed it up......cost me about $500 buck to get it fixed at the body shop...that is why i am giving you this advice....if you don't take it it is up to you but ...you'll regret not listening to me....hahaha..
5. When you tighten down the q towers make sure it is tight enough but not loose enough...how do you know you ask? well when you tighten down on the tower lever, you will see the sheet metal flex and get flattened. you don't want that! to prevent that from happening, make sure that you are able to close the latch with about 2 finger pressure. Anything more than that will be too much pressure.

if you need more help just pm me or i'll check back a little later.

its been put on now that info came with my q clips and towers, but since I paid REI to put it on, they got rid of the "bad" q towers. I was just getting towers that wouldnt line up with the lock housing
