Last week when I was driving and desided to take off from a light cause this stupid honda was reving i reved first to 6 cause that is were the HP peeks and shifted to 2nd it grinded and when I showed a couple friends and let them drive it that drive 5speeds they said the 2nd gear sacrows how ever you spell it LOL!!! I was guessing the same thing and i only have 26,000 miles on it. I took it to the dealership and they took it for like 5 test drives 5 diff poeple to figure the prob and i told them what it was and they said the same thing i told them. They are putting a new trans in it now but anyone else have that problem just wondering???!!!!

I'm still trying to read the first post. Please use some punctuation AND PLEASE, Your xB isnt' a race car.

I'm having problems with my transmission clunking. shifting to 2nd gear, sometimes I'll hear a clunk but what's disturbing me is that I hear a knocking sound when the car is idling. It only happens when I'm sitting still with my foot OFF the clutch pedal and the A/C compressor is running. If you turn off the A/C, the sound goes away. If you push the clutch pedal to the floor, the sound goes away.

I'm having similar issues, but it happens while up-shifting into 3rd/4th gear. Happens more often when I down-shift to 3rd. This is my second transmission in the car. I'm going to be paying the dealership another visit

synchronizer ring its a brass ring with teeth on it . have them cut off every other tooth and you can shift with pushing the clutch .

Do anybody have problem shifting into 2nd gear? It's hard to shift into second, especially in the morning (its 75+ degree out)and if it gets in, it seems like its grinding the gear? It gets worst in the winter.

I have a slight issue with second when the tranny fluid is cold. Once it's warm I rarely have grinding issues.

No grinding problems at all unless I don't press the clutch far enough, or let it out too soon, and those are my fault, not Toyota's!

A lot of times when I get on it from a light it wont let me into 2nd. Its very embarassing... IDk what it is but its like if I go all the way to redline it wants to stay in 1st. Maybe its something with the syncros. Before I go I try to run the shifter through the gears so as to prevent any "stuck"ness lol.

Did some of you guys ever think that these problems are happening because you're redlining a scion? These arent made to take to redline. Now if you want, maybe get an upgraded tranny.
The only problem I have is sometimes (not often) I can't get it into first, its like it is locked and I'll have to go down to second and then first to take off.

How long should you press on the clutch before and after you shift? What's consider shifting slow and fast? Do either of these hurt the tranny?

I only put 200 miles on mine and haven't noticed any problems like that. Will be on 5 days trip and hopefully I can test out everything.

2nd gear in mine is horrible. Been to dealer and they say there is no problem. Redline MT90 did not help

I agree as well. I have always driven MT and the only reason that happens is if i dont press the clutch deep enough. sometimes i accidentally release the clutch too early.

If you have aftermarket mat on top of your carpet .. try taking it off or at least avoid or clear the area behind the clutch pedal of any material [I did that and it works]
