Default Already burning oil?

I have an 09 with 26k miles on it. I had surgery last week and therefor havent driven or started my xb in 7 days.

Today i went out and started it, the idle was crazy for about 5 seconds. The engine shook so bad that the car was shaking a tiny bit. I look in the side mirror and see a puff of blue smoke, and then the idle becomes normal again.

Could this just be from it sitting for a week, or do i have bigger problems? Its been really humid so i thought maybe something had just started to corrode?

Usually from a cold-start, you will see increased gasses from the exhaust because the catalytic converters are not hot enough to clean the exhaust fumes yet.

And if you are burning oil, just keep an eye on the oil level. As long as you don't burn more then like 1qt / 1,000 miles your fine (says the manual I believe!)

Alright, thanks!

I'd really hate for the engine to be going out already, since toyotas almost never die lol.

Yeah I doubt it is any issue at all, just check oil level and be on your way.

Sometimes if a car is not driven in a while, the engine isn't as "lubed" because over time the oil drains slowly back into the sump. It will be nosier at start, but as long as it goes away youll be fine!

Haha, it's not that serious.

Has it done it since? If not, your fine.

Like I said, if you didn't drive it for 7 days, the oil has more time to "de-cling" off the moving parts in the engine. It won't be dry by any means, but it will be less lubricated then if you drove it a day or two before. When you start it, there was not proper levels of lubrication for those first few seconds until the oil pump was able to deliver the liquid goodness. Once that happened, it quieted down. Nothing unusual.

Don't look into it more then it is. As long as it doesn't happen constantly, then nothing to worry about.

I think Invertalon is right about the car sitting awhile and not running.

Many manuals for different manufacturers mention 1 qt of oil per 1k miles, but Ive never observed it and would be quite irritated if the engine did that under 75k miles. Old saturn engines late 90's werent that bad.

My Ford Ranger (98 2.4 liter with 90k miles) only burns a half quart per 3k miles.

My 07 Hundai Sonata 2.4L (60k) miles uses MAYBE 1/4 of a quart over 5500

More than likely it's because its been sitting for so long. But if it does it again I'd take it to the dealer asap.

If you are really worried get a compression test done on the motor.
