Default Can I lock the doors, using the key, with DOORS STILL OPEN?

Here's my problem: I have kids and an 08 Scion xB

When you lock the door using the lock button on the key with any doors open a loud beep sounds until you either press unlock or shut the doors. I would like to open my kids doors, press lock and get the keys out of my hands, unbuckle them, shut the doors and have them lock when shut (as with my 2 previous cars).

The situation is: My hands are always full and I have to keep the key in one hand wrangling 2 kids and whatever else I'm carrying in the other hand until all doors are closed before pressing the lock button and then attempting to get my key into my purse, so that I can use 2 hands. I would like to lock the car, while still getting everything out so that when I shut the doors I can walk away (locked).

Dealer tells me this is for Safety and can't be changed. Honestly, the way I have to do it now with two children and one hand in the middle of a busy parking lot endangers our safety a whole lot more. ANY HELP??

I think it is more so that you don't lock your keys in your car than for safety (not sure how that figures in). If you hit the lock button when doors are open and then set your keys down and close the door without thinking about it... bam, keys in locked car.

I'm getting a wicked case of deja vu here though. It feels like someone posted almost this EXACT story not too long ago.

Why not just bump your other thread instead of creating a new one?

You may be able to purchase and aftermarket alarm system and do it that way, but that's about the only way I can think of.

i tried to move the post but I couldn't find it - I'm not really good with forums :-(

i've saw some other posts about the dash things you can program but I assume this wouldn't be the same as it involves the locks

when mechanics reprogram dont' they use some kind of code? maybe i could tell them the code I want programmed?

Why don't you just push the lock button on one of the front doors AFTER opening your kids doors and putting your keys in your purse? No more beeeeeeeeeeep, and all the doors are locked after they're closed. Just be darn sure you have your purse/keys before closing the doors, or you'll be calling somebody else to come unlock your car.

it makes me sad that there is no way to fix this -

up down up down left right left right turn the key on turn the key off...

mechanical/electrical code...

no? instead i'll quit complaining and live around the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep instead of having the car work FOR me. with previous cars it was so simple. hum...

I still think my solution is really simple, and a whole lot safer than the way you're doing it now.
