Default In need of resonator help.

Hi this is my first post, but I have been lurking around for awhile now. So I finally got the nerve to modify my exhaust had a magnaflow muffler custom installed in place of the stock unit, about a week later I decided to open it up to 2.25 inches from the s-pipe back, but when the guys at the muffler shop got to that scuba tank/resonator. They said they couldn't remove it because it contained a ceramic honeycomb in it just like a cat, but it only goes for 1/4 the length of the resonator?
Would removing it have any adverse affects to my vehicle other than the obvious of making it louder, and is it actually a cat, because I couldn't find an 02 sensor after it.

Thanks for the help.

haha some guy on youtube removed his dont know where you live but i dont think thatd fly in cali, you can get a less restrictive resonator but i say snag a glasspack to get the tones a little bit lower cuz youll be really ricy if you take that out

IMO

was there any 02 sensors from the spipe back? i just got the borla and i want it to be loulder!!!!!

one of the things i don't like about removing the resonator is that it will put alot more black crap on your back end.

i know you have see one, that realy nice looking import with the cool exhaust and the black 2 foot circle on the bumper over the exhaust tip.

The strup exhaust is a cat back exhaust and there mid pipe has a small reasonator that replaces the stock one, and there local socal, so i dont think there is a problem with california emissions, muffler shops are not emissions specialist.

Ya I need to know if it is a cat, I have to worry about emissions here in new mexico. From what I measured when they cut it of the first 4 1/2 to 5 inches of the resonator is that ceramic honey comb a cat is made out of, and the rest if just a resonator tube.

its called a "3-way cat". the main cat is in the exhaust manifold right off the front of the motor. the scuba tank one is a secondary unit to clean up what ever the first one missed. if you do anything, keep all the stock emissions stuff in tact. if you relplace the scuba tank, have a shop build a direct bolt in piece, so if you have to get it inspected in the future, you can just slap the stock stuff back in and pass, then put the stuff you removed back in. it might seem like a pain, but try scraping off a failed inspection sticker. LOL

from the looks of it you kept the stock axle back and no second cat?

the sound is most likely what i am looking for... i think that your setup mated with the trd muffler i will get the sound i really want. what are the specs of the resonator?

I replaced my resonator with a 15" glasspack. Then had the muffler shop rebuild the mid-section w/ 2.5" piping, flanged up to the TRD axleback (which is also 2.5" piping). Works great, sounds great, love it!!!

I am wondering if the car would pass smog if you had after-market headers, a fast-cat, and after-market axel back? Anyone got hook-ups at a smog check place to test it out?
