Default Throttle Delay, Rough Idle... MAF sensor?

So, tomorrow my Xb goes in for a warranty check up. I've had it about 3,000 miles. (30,000 on it total) and its been... Idling Lumpy off and on at lights.

it also has about a second, to a half second delay on the throttle. I don't know much about VVT-i engines, Imports or 4-bangers. my experience is all in the Jeep 4.0 (a very different beast!)

could both those problems really be related to a MAF?

and, my dealer tells me MAF/s can be cleaned?

Really?

Its plausible. If the MAF is dirty, the ECU won't know precisely how much air is entering the engine, and thus won't know precisely how much fuel to inject. This would result in hesitation and lumpy idling. Kind of like a improperly jetted carb on the good ol' 4.0.
Its true that it can be cleaned, however its a somewhat delicate procedure. Some googling should give some good results.

If anything, they'll replace it. Dealers don't clean Maf sensors, just replace them.

Default I had the same issue...

Use 89 octane gasoline, that fixed the problem for me.

I hope this helps!

LOL, actually, that was their fix! we couldnt find anything wrong with it today. and it hadnt done it since the afternoon AFTER I took it in the first time...

then I remembered... they gave me a full tank of gas when i was almost out. and I was like... "I use Chevron 85... what do you use? and he's says "chevron, 85,89 and 91."

and i was like "which did you give me?"

and he's like "well, it recommends 87, so probably 89!"

so, yeah... no lumpy idles. till today. when I Left and filled up with 85.

so. lesson learned. even chevron 85 isn't gonna make my Scion happy!

It'd be nice If I lived where i could get chevron 87 though. save a little coin!
