Default How is the supercharger???

I am seriously considering selling my super charged tacoma and get the kit for the xb. I like the more power i have at the lower end, however the tacoma requires the super charger to maintain and exceed posted highway speeds. The xb on the other hand just pulls, pulls and pulls.

I bought my car from a priority dealer who has a lifetime warranty on the engine as long as they service it, so it would be a win, win upgrade.

I know of a guy who got the sc for his tc and said it killed his fuel economy. Another guy who has nothing but problems. Infact the gear nose of the truck I am driving was replaced underwarranty at 44k miles.

Of course a turbo or nos is another option, but both likely to void the lifetime engine warranty.

Right now when I need etra umph in my xb I just put it in 3d or selector shift.

Thanks.

Thanks, glad to see posting a 4th thread about this will get an answer in :another: forum.

My tacoma is only effected when boosted, so makes me believe the tc owner is boosting all the way.

Thats where I learned about nos. I assumed since we have the same drive train, same co efficient of drag, its basically the same drivetrain wise and acceleration, etc, just different seating arrangements.

Had me worried someone answered my question.

Just having fun with you cobb, hope I didn't offend you.

Keep in mind that with the SC, you have to run premium fuel, so your gas bill will go up about 10% no matter what.

Yeah, the xb owners just seem colder than the xa crowd.

I got about 10 grand burning a hole in my pocket from my tax return and want to make a smart investment. My parents can get a beater for a few grand, I can sell the truck that gets 17-20mpg and use my xb 24/7 for daily commuting and the weekend road warrior and hope-ing to get decent fuel economy. Not that I think the xb lacks power, but its fun to "surprise" people with a sleeper.

Ive had quite a few incidents with my truck when someone sees a plain jane lifted toy with the v6 sticker rocking away. Nothing like being able to pass 4 cars where most people can pass 1 when merging.

I was one night on i95 minding my own business doing 70 in the far right lane, then came upon a bunch of cars single file going 35mph. WTF, are these cars part of a self driving project? This was just as an onramp was passed and a heard of cars came up from behind doing 70 too. I kept one eye on the car in front of me, one in the mirror to change lanes and I reached to turn off od.

I floored it when I saw a gap to merge. I saw what looked like the head lamps of a semi truck in my rear view mirror. No big deal, in a few seconds he will be a few hundred feet behind me as I catch the cars in front of me doing 70.

WTF, this truck is in the left lane now and I can hear his turbo and he is staying with me. I finally catch the cars in front of me, released the gas petal and turned on od. He passed me and was driving a jacked up cummins diesel that had been riced out by jcwhitney.

Just seems strange there is little to nothing about the toy sc, but lots on aftermarket turbos.

Well, superchargers are belt driven, so they're always boosting.
Turbos are controlled by the load on the engine, so they only boost when you get your foot into it.

Yeah, my tacoma makes a sizling sound when I start to build rpms and still have a vacuum, when I enter boost it goes to a whine sound.

Yeah, I see some problems, maybe thats why no one has one for an xb daily driver?

depends on the supercharger...roots are not belt driven and centrifugal s/c's are belt driven...
TRD supercharger for xb is belt driven (centrifugal) and pretty much boosts all the time, but the amount of boost depends on how you feather the throttle
Greddy s/c for the xB is a roots style and is not belt driven...
i just hope the TRD one for the xB is better than the one for the tC

The charger looks identical for tc or xb. My tacoma is a roots style and it too is belt driven.
