Default 2012 With Satelite Radio

I'm picking up a slightly used 2012 XB tonight that has the factory Pioneer head unit in it that is satelite radio capable. I swear I remember reading that there is some kind of "box" that is needed for this to work, and I think I remember it being pretty expensive ($300 or $400?). If this is the case, where are they usually mounted so I can see if mine already has it? Also, if it does, will my current XM account work since Sirius and XM are pretty much the same thing now? and how do I get it converted over to work on the head unit? I know theres an ID number on the back of the Sirius and XM radios that they use to activate your account, i didn't know if theres something similar with the factory head units. Thanks.

the unit you are looking for is located under the passenger seat... also , there will be an additional antenna on the roof near the stock antenna and it is a flat square looking thing about 1 inch by 1inch in size. If you do not have it installed already the total cost for the "parts" are as follows.. $179 for the XM tuner $20 for the tuner cover and $85 for the fit kit plus shipping. these are just parts and installation can be done by various places including a toyota/scion dealerships and local Radio shops and those prices can vary quite a bit. Once everything is installed you will then be able to get your XM radio ID number to activate it. so you are looking at a minimum of $400 just to add XM radio to weak stock radio system. in my opinion, you can go to a local shop and get a better aftermarket radio that is xm capable and have them do the installation for roughly the same price and have a better head unit, then down the road if you want you can replace the speakers and add a sub woofer and have a better sound system than what is there now, but that is up to you.
you can go directly to trdsparks and check out the prices yourself here>> http://www.trdsparks.com/displaypart...&parts_id=1035

Does anyone have pictures of these parts? Just curious what they look like. I don't think my car has them.

not really much to look at... the tuner is just a square box that goes under the passenger seat, the cover for it is just a piece of plastic to protect it, the fit kit is just a wire harness that goes from the tuner to the radio and it also contains the antenna, you might be able to look at one if someone is selling it on ebay... here is one very similar>>> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toyota-Lexus...bc84b2&vxp=mtr
