Um... It definitley doesn't come off. I usually park in my garage but I had to park outside a couple day a last week. I just threw a black towel over the dash so you can't see anything. When not using the towel I just folded it up, reached over and stuffed it under the rear seat.

I think a big black towel is very handy in the car. It makes a great "cargo cover" too. It also helps keep reflections of whatever's in the trunk from beeing seen in the rear window when you're driving.

nope, it's on there. Come to think of it, I dont recall any newer double dins with a removable face

I didn't think so either until I saw this:

I have this unit and its freakin AWESOME!! but yea, you probably dont wanna walk around with the faceplate in your pocket
