I mad a large order of raammat and ensolite to start my install right. I installed it myself and some friends. Overall I am pretty happy for my first real deadening project. We only did the floor, doors will be later.

Thoughts
1. If this is extra gooey (B-stock sale) I can't wait to work with the regular stuff
2. I should have used more Raammat, I bought a ton and thought I was using a lot, but for the floor I used just over 1 roll and have 2 left.
3. I love ensolite. Easy to work with and can definitely tell the difference immediately.
4. The Scion is extremely easy to take apart (mostly) A few parts were a pain
5. I didn't need the trim panel removers, maybe for the doors
6. Definitely less road noise coming through the floor, one of my goals
7. Thanks to my friends Jeremy and Justin. Jeremy especially has been the man helping me with installs.

Rucari, it is a lot of work.

I did it for several reason
1. To help with road noise, the XB is a bit loud
2. To help with resonance of panels from sound system

I am not done, still have a long way to go

 

lol loud.. you must not have had an 04-06 . The new one is beyond quiet compared to the old ones.

I was going to use the handle to press the mat instead of a roller, but didn't really need it. RaamMat is very flexible and no problems.

Randode, let me know when you get airbags, I might be interested. I would consider lowering if I could keep the nice ride and just drop it when parked

 

XBFred, did you do the roof proper?

I am really curious to see what are behind the two panels in the rear pillar. They are marked with SRS and I want to see what's behind there to see if Toyota maximized the space with the indentations for the storage cubby.

Also curious to see what is behind the A-Pillars as those are also marked SRS.

Haven't done the roof yet or the pillars yet, not sure when i will get time, but I will as soon as I can. I am thinking I might spend some time taking it apart and then leave it apart and work on one section every couple days over the next few weeks.

I am not going to do much to the roof other than deadening, so it is still going to flex alot because it is so big

 

Well, here is part 2.

I started work on the doors this morning and have come to several conclusions

1. Doors are much harder than floor.
2. Having friends help makes a world of difference.
3. I suck at installing ensolite. I get glue everywhere and can't get it to look clean. I see others all in nice on piece and know I have no craft skills
4. Scion XB doors stink. for such a large flat door outside, the inside has way too many curves, Even gets really shallow at places. My arms barely fit to install the mat and had to cut in really small pieces
5. Don't cut mat on the floor while wearing sandals. I sliced my big toe open. I was cutting the mat and when it went through it sliced my toe. At first thought was no big deal, but then started bleeding like crazy... a couple band aids and a sock and back to work.
6. All in all, floor with 3 people took 3 hours, doors by myself 5 hours and not done
7. I still need to seal the holes and ensolite the inner door panel, but wiring will make that hard

 

I can see from your pics that you've had the surrounding plastics off from around the shifter console.

I'm considering getting a new xB and the one thing that bugs me about the interior is how wide that center shifter console is. It really limits right leg/knee room. I was thinking it might be possible to mod it to make it narrower. At least on the left side.

Could you say how much (if any) of the inside of the left side of the console is dead space? In other words, is there enough empty space in there to do a mod sort of like this?

 

I didn't measure it, but you could probably do that. There is a little width you can adjust.

as you can see by the pics there is a brace there but I don't think is an wider than the piece that is left and if it is, only by a tiny amount... I actually had the same issue as you, didn't take me that long to get used to it and is only an issue every now and then for me

Again, I am used to it by now, the one thing I am having trouble is figuring out where to mount my cell phone. It is pretty good size and I need a spot for it, but everywhere within reach seems to be in the way of something else.

 

i remember deading my truck and using 300 ft of it. that was no fun whatsoever...but it does help when you got 3500 watts bumping.

 

most power I have ever run was about 1000 watts and no deadening... definitely needed it.

I am not going to be running much power, but definitely want the nest SQ possible.

This the deadening lowers the noise floor as well as the resonance of the panels

 

Question about the door panels.... is it just a matter of yanking it out or are there screws and bolts somewhere to remove this?
