Default Dear God, what have I done??

Only had the car for about a week and look what I've done to it!

I've got 100 sq ft of dynamat extreme to install now. Any suggestions before I begin??

extra padding under the front to help with road noise... one thing I wish I would have done more of.... doors are a serious pain in the butt.. I only did floor and front doors.... also recommend since you have gone this far, do the roof too

Thought about doing the roof but am a little nervous about taking the headliner down. The pucker factor was high enough getting it to where you see it now.

I plan to do this at some point as well. Any places xbfred that you recommend not to dynomat or is this stuff thin enough to where it wont interfere with "bulges" when the seats and carpet are reinstalled?

Nice work on gutting the interior! I would start with the rear hatch and cargo area (assuming that you are going to install a sub. Then the doors, front floor and as much as you can on the roof. I used Dynamat Xtreme in my gen 1 xB and it came out great!
You may want to get some material though...

Good luck!

Since I had all the panels off anyway I just installed my new tail lights. Took less than 5 minutes due to the already stripped down state of the car!

Did the same thing to my tC. I used about 180 sq ft. Don't worry about the headliner... that will not make to much of a difference. Good Luck!!

Thanks. Not really sure how far 100 sq ft will go. Sounds like a lot. We'll see. Probably won't do the headliner for now. At this point I will say that if this is something that you are planning to do, don't be afraid. Everything came out relatively easily but ask me again after I put it all back together. My local stereo shop wanted $1000 for labor only to put in the Dynamat and install the stereo. The result of hering that is in the photos above.....

If you aren't going to do the roof for now, then I'd say go for it in this order:
Rear hatch
Cargo area
Front Doors
Front Floors and up the firewall
Rear Doors

Installation couldn't be easier. Clean each surface just before installation. Just make sure not to try to put on huge pieces all at once. Cut to fit, then lay on. After the first few pieces, you will fly through the rest. If it is warm outside when you do it, the stuff sticks like glue. It is awesome!

In the case of the gen2 it makes a huge difference it nearly drove me insane in the rain or a car wash. Post deadening it's *much* quieter. I'm sure in the tC it wouldn't have that much of an impact but there's alot less surface area.

Back to the topic..since you have it torn apart to that level, you may as well do the A,B and C pillars too, mind the airbag though.

As for the headliner, it's up to you, it's not that hard to remove.

As soon as I get enough money together I will be doing everything as well.

I'm planning on doing the floor, the doors twice, and the roof twice. All within legal stanctions of car audio events.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh, your car is naked!!!!

I definitely suggest doing the roof. It will make a huge difference in an XB. I did my gen 1 and the overall noise level dropped considerably. There's a lot of surface up there and little to no deadening.

Great job so far! This is somethng I'd love to do but it's hard to get the motivation for such a large project. It doesn't help that my garage is only wide enough for one car. I drive myself nuts trying to get any work done in there!

Please post your results. Do you think after a thorough deadening job that we'd be talking Lexus LS450 interior quietness?

Wow. Great job indeed! You should take some rudimentary db readings pre deadening and post just to give an idea.

Honestly I have up to 5 layers in some areas and a layer of ensolite.... the mat is really good, but honestly after doing it on my I would have done more ensolite or some kind of noise barrier.... the mat helps dampen against panel resonance, but something like ensolite or vertex barrier pad is needed to dampen road noise.... I would have done a couple more layers of ensolite or vertex..... I am working on a classic suburban in the near future and deadening will be huge budget item with either lots of vertex or ensolite and I am trying to find out what it would take to do an all neoprene interior
