Default Ebay Double Din

Has anyone installed an ebay radio in there Scion? If so could you help me out with things like getting the steering wheel controls to work and I would like to keep using the stock iPod and Aux plugs. This is the one I was looking at. It had some pretty good reviews.

Thanks

First off Ebay doesn't make radios, that looks like something out of mp3playerstore. It's garbage, and if you're going to buy a new headunit save up your money and buy a name brand unit like Alpine,Pioneer,Kenwood, don't buy this. As for the steering wheel controls you need to purchase a separate unit that I can't remember the name of the brand of.

Sorry didn't mean to say ebay radio more like a no name brand radio. How do you know if its garbage? It has a lot more features than most of the top brand name models come with.

I would agree that it would be best to get a name brand unit, especially if you want to keep the use of your steering wheel controls. Probably better sound too. You will still need to buy a remote kit for your steering wheel controls - they list the brands that they will work with. I doubt if this brand is on anyone's list. I would highly recommend the AXXESS ASWC for the steering wheel control kit. This is the one I put in my xB. I originally got the PAC-SWI, but never used it because the Axxess was much easier to install...

Alternatively Alpine made a Scion headunit that came in the 2010, but can be retrofitted into just about any year depending on how hand you are. The process is outlined in this post:

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=185337

If you're crafty you might be able to pick one of those headunits up in the same price range as the Chinesium crap in that eBay link you posted. The Scion Alpine unit may not be all decked out like the aftermarket ones are, but it's OEM, offers a lot of expandability (with some work), and all the steering wheel controls and such work.

That being said, as others posted, stick with a name brand like Alpine, Kenwood, Sony, Clarion, etc... Just note you may need to purchase an external interface box for your steering wheel controls like the PAC-SWI or the Metra Axxess ASWC.

Good luck!

I bought a Kenwood, PAC-SWI, upgraded the four door speakers (the OE tweeters perform very well) and installed door panel damping. The sound quality is excellent and the audio pad controls work fine.

I've since extended the bottom by adding a Bazooka right-rear 8" sub and continue to be very satisfied with the sound -- FM stereo, CD, USB2 (MP3, etc), Aux (home recorded metal oxide cassettes).

Decided to go with the Pioneer AVH 3400BH. Doesn't have built in Navigation but works the same when you plug in your iPhone. I couldn't be happier with the sound or the quality of the radio. I actually got it for the same price as the eBay knock off. Thanks for all of your help.
