Default Ipod Connector Question

Does anyone know if the ipod connector is continuously running power through the cable when connected to an ipod? I know that the car charging port only runs power while the vehicle is turned on; thus, it nothing will charge when the vehicle is off. I just want to see if I can just leave my ipod connected indefinitely so I don't have to keep connecting and disconnecting, all without it draining power from the battery. I like being able to just turn on my car and just having the music start up automatically.

Thanks!

afaik, you can leave the ipod connected indefinitely without worry about your battery.

i do believe the power does turn off with the car off, but the ipod should shut off as well.

oh okay, thx for the info!

The thing about my situation is that my ipod doesn't turn off when I turn off the car but it also doesn't say that it is charging or anything like that so I believe that I should be okay. Im using an old ___ ipod mini from 2004 (since I can't use the iphone 3G at this point).
