Default Kenwood DNX5120

Just picked up one of these for my '08 XB. Has anyone installed one of these? Would love to see some pics. If so, is it compatible with steering wheel controls or iPod/Aux connections?

Also, I need to get an install kit as the dealer did not have one. Paid $799 for the unit including NAV. I specifically like the Garmin interface and the fact it is SD Card driven.

thanks in advance.

I have a Kenwood eXcelon KVT-815DVD installed in my xB2, but I reeeeeeally want to upgrade to the DNX8120...

But install should be a snap. Get a wiring harness and a double din kit from a local stereo shop.

Steering controls will not be retained. You'll need to get an interface from PAC or another couple retailers.

And iPod/Aux connections are lost as well. You will have to get either the hi-speed cord for the Kenwood or the cord with the box. Your dealer should be able to let you know!

Yep. You'll need part number:

KCA-iP300V

You can relocate the cord to inside the glove box for more stealth-ness.

I have the DDX512 (same unit without nav) and totally love it (not bad for $350).

You'll need the KCA-iP300V (usually around $30) and the PAC Audio SWI-JACK for your steering wheel controls. The install is beyond easy; Scion really had the a/v ****** in mind when they designed this car.

The iPod interface is SLICK. It makes scrolling through a big library really easy, and the video playback is dead-on. I'm so glad I went with Kenwood.

I tried to buy a PAC SWI JACK from crutchfield and it said it wasnt compatible for our cars outfitted with the dnx5120. Was it just plug and play for you? How was the install for that?

Hmm yeah I'd like to get a confirmation that we can for sure still use the steering wheels controls.

The PAC Audio website confirms both the compatibility of the DDX512 to the PAC SWI-JACK and the steering wheel controls. It's not listed on Crutchfield, and they've been wrong before.

I bought it anyway, and everything worked out okay

Everything I've read about Kenwoods has said that they're glitchy and buggy.

mine has been almost trouble-free. The iPod interface acted nutty once, but that's because the iPod froze. Everything else has been solid.

YEAH! I got some pics coming up this weekend. My cousin did it for me, only problem was that the unit sticks out and isn't flush like oem. He was trying and trying to make it flush but just couldnt make it happen...oh well, still looks good. Less for me to reach. The PAC-SWI-JACK worked perfect, definitely needed that. Was your's fitted flush into the dash ipauletteUSAF?

Looks good!

I'm still considering the DNX8120.

Here's my install.....

We also added the Bluetooth unit and iPod control. The iPod control even displays album artwork. I had the AUX port in the Scion conntected to the head unit and also added steering wheel controls. I think all told, I spent $800, including install.
