Default Stock radios interchangeable?

Hi folks,

2008 xB with the stock T1809 radio. Question is, will the later models stock radios with updated features fit in my 08? Any wiring modifications needed or any security issues (the wife's old Monte Carlo radio was tied in with the security system).

Thanks in advance!!!

If I remember correctly you can swap in anything up to 2010. After that they changed the harnesses. You can make the later years work but with the extra money you would spend you're just better off putting an aftermarket unit in.

Roger that. I was looking at the PT546-00140, wondering if it work without changing the wiring.

And also, is it plug and play are do these radios have to be "programmed"?

Really looking at the above model number because of the newer display. The 08 stock one is so primitive.

No, that one will require adapting the harness on the back of it over to the older harness design in the car. You'll also need an adapter from the newer antenna connection back to a standard connection. Also the iPod and AUX input plugs won't work with it. You can get harnesses and adapters for all of this to work but it's just easier and cheaper to replace the radio with a quality aftermarket unit. Added advantage is that it'll sound better.

Looks looks like I'm headed to crutchfield. I want to find a deck that I can still use my steering wheel controls with.

Thanks for all the replies!

Steering wheel controls are easy. You buy a PAC SWI or Metra ASWC-1. Both are adapters to keep your steering wheel controls. Personally i like the Metra unit better but both work well.

Finally got around to pics of the install. I went with the following:

JVC KD-X370BTS head unit
Metra 99-8257 dash kit
Metra 70-1761 wiring harness
Pioneer TS-G650 front door speakers (old ones were falling apart)

I had previously installed a Toyota Handsfree PT923-00111, but didn't like several things about how it operated with bluetooth, and the fact that it only played through the front speakers.

This deck works flawlessly with Bluetooth. Couldn't be more happier with it. Especially the ease of radio removal/installation -
compared to 5 years ago with the wife's old 2004 Monte Carlo which was a pain in the *** with all the dash work.
