Default VSS issue with aftermarket navi install

The purple wire in the 20 pin connector (pin 3) is not getting my eclipse AVN 5435 the speed signal it is looking for. Under system check it shows like 1mph when i am driving 15 and 3mph when i am driving 60. Maybe the speed pulse is a different format or I have the wrong wire.

Anybody run into this issue? Can anyone tell we a wire to try in the speedo cluster instead?

You have the correct wire on the car side. What color wire are you connecting it to on the Eclipse? Does it have a smooth motion on the map when you are moving or does it seem to jump every second? How long have you been driving? It does take a couple of miles to calibrate.

I HU is connected to the purple-white stripe wire, its got a tag on it that says Speed Sensor, so i know it is right. I have driven the car 40+ miles and i still get the 1, 2, 3 for my mph so apparently somethings up. The navigation is basically worthless at this point. Any other ideas?

edit... well just got off the phone with crutchfield, they too confirmed pin 3 purple wire... I dont get it... maybe my theres a bent pin or broken wire inside the insulation. I guess i get to tear it out for the 300th time.

Where is your GPS antenna located? Is it picking up your location?

GPS antenna is in the factory position (0n top of the duct perch to the right of the speedo cluster. The GPS antenna alone gets me in the ball park but the 1/2/3mph signal it is getting plays all kind of heck with it working while driving. I am getting good signal from the GPS antenna according to the HU.

You would think the speed sensor would either work or wouldnt.

Can't help. You have everything right. Are you the original owner of the 5435? They have a 3 year warranty if its bad and I think you are at 3 years.
