1GreeKtC's xB2 repaired and all stock. Getting traded :)
Dang thats a good chunk of change. Have them cut you the check, Buy a used engine for $1200 (seen em on ebay), labor to install (maybe 600-800 I would guestimate) and pocket the remaining.
To the OP, that sucks about the xB dude, and there's nothing worse than getting a crappy rental when your car's being checked out/fixed. I had a fender bender a few months back in my tC and they tried giving me a Cobalt that didn't even have power windows/locks haha! The Sonata might be a Hyundai, but I'd pick that Hyundai over an HHR (or ANY chevy for that matter, unless it's Bumble Bee lol) anyday.
Good luck with everything!
As it is right now, the car is going to get fixed with the money the insurance will give me. This should take 1-2 business days for the engine to arrive and my mechanic 1 day to fit it.
Immediately after the car is in my possession I'm going to a dealership and trading it in. I might pull the trigger on an Accord coupe 6speed and calling a day.
Now I'm excited.

!In any case, if you get a different car, best wishes with it
!
i got my bmw for 26.8 grand because i bought it wholesale, used from a dealer in this condition, it would have cost over 30.
as for hyundai, they're still not good cars, considering they're being probed for the steering becoming disconnected in the soul and the sonata, i wouldn't want one at all. have they come a long way, yes, but they still have a long way to go. and yeah, toyota, honda, nissan and subaru have been sleeping a bit it seems. i think the problem is that they spend too much time segmenting their brands and models for differentiation among buyers, but haven't done much in the way of improving their engines, drivetrains or demographics. especially toyota and honda, they think that everybody just wants an appliance and nobody wants a car with some flair.
and to the last question, mine is a 2007 bmw 335i sedan with the sport package, so it does have the awesome n54 engine, but it doesn't have the tweaks that the new 335is has like overboost and extra power and such.
