If you open the Scheduled Maintenance Guide that came with the Owner's Manual, the very 1st page tells you that the 1st two scheduled maintenances (5k & 10k) are included at no cost.

Show that to the dealer, if they still won't do it, complain to Scion/Toyota.

Does anybody find it unreasonable that I was told I would have to wait 2 hours OR MORE for my first oil change and that I could NOT make an appointment? That ____ed me off so I took my xB to Jiffy Lube and paid for the oil change.

I have complained to my local dealer who wanted me to leave my car all day for an oil change and tire rotation. (Make sure you get the tire rotation for free also- it's in the book). The dealer agreed to schedule me for shorter times and offered a free loaner car if I wanted.
It's still a hassle. I think SCION Toyota would get a lot more service customers if they could do routine maint. while you wait.

Just do it yourself, its really not that hard and knowing that the oil was ACTUALLY changed is worth it. Sorry but I don't trust stealerships.

When I go, I'll be visibly checking the filters, and tires before and after to make sure it was done. I will also put a visible indicator on each to make sure.
This is really a test of the service itself.

I caught honda not rotating all my tires during service (We also own an Odessey).. I put markers on the tires before bringing it in. I caught them rotating only one side and when I confronted them about it and showed proof, they gave me the service for free.. The manager felt stupid. Next time, they did it again but rotated the other side... Gat the 15K service for free but I dodnt think I'll be bringing it in there now cuz I neverr thought to check the oil filter to see if it was changed... Im using my 1st 3 service since its free then I'll will do it my self

My maintenance guide says first 2 services free, how are you getting 3?
Is it just compliments of the particular dealership you purchased at?

JIFFY LUBE.... I wouldn't let those BOZO's or and other quick lube place change the oil in my Lawn mower. Just me though, and I'm not throwing you down for going there, just have never trusted those places. For the rest of you'll, can't believe your Dealers don't offer an Express Lube just for oil changes.

Definitely complain about having to pay or any other issue!
Have you all been getting the surveys that Toyota/Scion sends out? i seem to get one each time I have to deal with the car, first regarding the purchase, another about dealership, another about the first 5000 mile service and my last was a big one about the car itself. i did have a small problem that I stated on the first one, so a few days later the dealership AND a rep from Scion actually contacted me like it was the end of the world! I was blown away!! At least i know they are listening!

at my 5000 they even went over the work that was done and I could tell all the work was done since I had also made sure to mark and inspect things before hand.

same here. Autowest Honda in Fremont, CA is not the place to be. it happened to me 3x on our Odyssey. i made it a habit now that i check before leaving the lot. (it's pre paid service up to 60k but after it will expires i will spread the word about them) i have at least 3 more service

BTW, I just had my 5k service on the xB yesterday- yes it's free

The 5k and 10k maintenances are complimentary from Scion on all 08 models- If the dealer is telling you otherwise, definitely contact Scion (preferably while you are the dealership- then the Scion rep can get the service advisor on the phone and advise them that 5k and 10k services are free and to submit them as warranty claims) That should take care of that right away

And if you do submit a survey w/ any complaints, a Scion rep will always contact you with 2business days typically
