Default Accessories worth getting?

I'm ordered and waiting for my new xB auto. I'm wondering what accessories are worth getting installed by the dealer? Springs, sway bar, etc?

If the parts are easy to install, I'll do it myself.



Anybody ever got the dealer installed HID? Just curious how it looks like.

sun roof!
springs, HID, tail lights, are all easy to do. i would never try to install a sun roof myself.

About the sunroof, do they cut the roof up when the car arrives at the dealership?

I assume the sunroof is powered and not manual? Where will the switches and wires go?

Anybody got a picture of a sunroof in the xB?

Dealership wouldn't do a sunroof in-house, it would go out to someone locally to the dealership and get contracted out. You could get basically anything you wanted. You'll pay more for it through the dealership but the upside is it can be part of the price of the car and financed.

The sport steering wheel is leather wrapped. That is the difference.

Personally I'd get anything that you don't feel comfortable doing yourself. Otherwise, most things can be had later at a lower price.

For the steering wheel, is it held by a bolt that connects to the steering column which requires a tremendous amount of torque to turn it?

I think the steering wheel is one of those things you want a dealer to do. It's more than just bolting on a new one...there is an airbag and all the hookups for that to contend with.

I see the spoiler on TRDSparks. Would it be a easy install in the future? Requires drilling?

i was thinking that too. I know of a few people that have installed it on the 1st gen. they said it wasnt that hard. That was something i wanted to do myself.

Yeah I'm a bit confused too. My dealer told me I could add stuff before the car comes for no extra charges (installation cost). Now they told me to tell them what I want when the car arrives at the dealership and will charge me what is listed on their website...

That means items that are installed at the port location when they first come off the boat. An example is every South East Toyota distributed xB had the premium radio installed at port. The two I looked at in Savannah, GA last week had the premium radio, floor mats and fog lights all as port installed accessories.

^ right on the money. But toronado, you answered your own question. I doubt the Navi will be hard to install. But the spoiler takes some work. I've seen one be put on a Gen 1, and it looks like its not an easy job. Let alone the hatch on the Gen 2 looks like its thicker. The TRD exhaust is easy to install. (All accessories and I mean ALL come with instructions so you can do anything yourself!!!)

When they install it at the dealership, do they give you back the old parts? Say... the sport steering wheel. Do you get your original steering wheel back?

You should get all of your old stuff back... and the spoiler doesn't necessarily require drilling. Lots of people have installed theirs using 3M automotive tape and nothing more.

It's not so much "Toyota" technicians. The port's are pretty much just wholesalers, the more accessories they add the more they make. Ever wonder why you can't find a bone stock car on a dealer lot?

A lot of the cars that are sold from the dealer left the factory all in the same shape. Most often, things like wings, stereo's, wheels and easy to install items are done at port and other times from the dealer.

actually, the cars must come from Japan to America w/o anything installed. Such as spoilers, roof racks, ground effects, mirrors (if they don't fold), etc. Some of the dealerships don't want to install the accessories so they have the port do it instead. And techgeek, the port only installs what is on the window sticker. And then if the dealer installs anything else (such as aftermarket stuff), it goes on the other window stickers that they have. And if they add any other Scion accessories, new window stickers are printed.
