Default Any one ever switch from a tC to a xB???

hey guys, me and my gf are having a baby and i was thinking about possibly getting something with 4dr's. last year i bought a 08 tC with alot of trd goodies and options. i was thinking about trading this in and getting a xB.

so i was wondering if anyone out there has done this and what your experience was with the transition from the sporty tC to the xB. i also would like to hear some pros and cons and what not of switching over.

thanks a bunch

I didn't make the switch from the tc to the xb2, but the reason I didnt buy the tc was because it was too small and I wanted 4 doors.

The only two cons I see is that the aftermarket is no where near the tc level and you may take a big hit in trade in value if you didn't put down a good down payment when you got the tc. A pro is your insurance premium should go down.

G/L with the decision and congrats on the new baby!

proud "switcher"
after owning the tC since 05 i decided that it was too small for me (i'm 6'3") and i was getting bored of the whole 2door thing i had going on.
the xB2 i ended up getting in the color i initially wanted the tC in so i was super excited....i love every inch of the box and needless to say i get more looks...
pros for xB2: much roomier, easier access (you don't have to duck to get out or in, you practically slide), as powerful as the tC, stable when dropped and finally......it looks killer in white!
cons: i'm not a fan of it braking abilities, why not have an arm rest for my passengers?

overall im extremely happy with the change and i have NOT looked back since October 7th!
i highly recommend it for you and your new family....it will be the perfect addition to your garage
best of luck!!!

thanks for your input guys i appreciate it

as far as the tC it only has 8k miles on it and is completely paid off and has about 2.5k worth of scion options on it. im hoping that i could be able to trade it in and have to pay little or no money for the xb2 but idk

anyone else have anymore input or stories to share?

thanks again

I am a big guy and thought the xa was great, as most cars minus suvs are small inside for big people. Turns out I was wrong when I tried an xb 2. Man, its roomie like the benz I use to drive and has similar fuel economy. Sure the xa got 40, but it made my knee and hip ache, plus it took some sliding of the seats to get 3 people inside and out. This car, you do not need to move the seats, its roomie.

when i went to buy the xB i was deciding between the tC and the xB.. what sold me was same engine same(-ish) price, more space and more doors.

the safety is great and if anything its just as mod-friendly as the tC if the bug is still there.

Have you used kelly blue book to see what trade in value is for it? I did mine yesterday for the xb2 and trade in was $12,ish with 14k miles. I'm thinking you may get 13k or possibly 14k for it. I did private sale and it showed $18k lol

Well, I had a 2008 tC for about 9 months, and then it was totaled out in some flooding. I decided to get a new xB instead of the tC, for a few reasons. Off the showroom, yes the tC felt like it handled better, but it really wasn't *that* big of a difference. I'm sure with stickier tires, rear sway bar, etc... it would be pretty close. The main thing I miss from the tC is the auto up/down windows. I don't miss the sunroof that much, but that's another difference.

The xB is so much more practical than the tC was. There's a lot more interior space, and there's better overall visibility. The tC really wasn't all that sporty or that great at handling in my opinion. There's a downgrade in that department, but neither the xB or the tC are performance vehicles.

The fact is, the xB is cheaper and more useful, so that's pretty much how I came to my decision. The handling differences are there, but it's not terrible. Acceleration feels about the same, comparing the two. Do you prefer a sleeker looking car, with slightly better handling, or almost twice as much storage space? The xB is a good car and if you think 4 doors and a wagon would fit your lifestyle better, I say, go for it.

Hope that helps.

Im actually facing the same delema, i've had my tc for more than a year and a half, and im finding it too small for me now. Im kinda moving out of the whole 2 door car thing, and want something with more space. My problem is if i should make the switch now or wait till i finish paying off my tc (i have about $8000 left in payments). Im pretty sure i can get some positive equity with my 07.

Get rid of it now while it still has the most value. If you wait until it's paid off, Scion may have done a design update, in which case your resale value will have dropped because it would then be the "old" model.

Im just worried that trading it in when its not fully paid off will hurt my credit somehow

Won't hurt your credit in the slightest.

Trading in your car before it's paid off won't hurt your credit, but that $8,000 won't just magically disappear. It still has to be paid somehow. For example, if the dealer is willing to give you 14,000 for your car on a trade-in, and you still owe 8,000, then you will only get a "credit" of 6,000 to apply to the new car you are buying. So, if you wanted a new xB, you would have to finance about 10,000 to 11,000. Of course, it all depends on what you negotiate for your trade value and how much cash you can put down on the new car.
