I have had my 3rd chip/crack. If you go to some of the glass repair shops they have a resin that they inject into the hole and it fixes the chip. It cost about $45-60 for a single fix. If the windshield is cracked that normally can't be fixed unless it's really small. Always try the chip/crack repair shops first before you buy a windshield.
I purchased the front end hood protector in leather and so far my chip problem has been stopped. Try any bumper shield mask or wind / rock deflector it sure beats buying a new windshield and replacing inspection stickers. My xB is 1st gen 04.

I believe we have a problem! I have that same crack on the VIN.

Last year I reported a cracked windhsield to the forum and there has been one more since then, so I am now on my 3rd windshield! Lots of rocks here in Arizona! Insurance has paid for the replacements.
