Default Anyone else had this happen?

Last night, I noticed the trim piece on the roof (Drivers Side) was starting to come up. Figured I'd be OK for a few days.

This morning, I was driving at about 45mph, all of a sudden, I hear a thud. Then something hitting the back hatch. I look in the side mirror, lo and behold, the damn thing had completely ripped out except for one clip.

I'm kind of ____ed. it's an O8, and we are only 2k out of the B2B warranty. I doubt they will fix it for free. Anyone else seen this.

my dad has an 08 and one fell off about 10k miles ago and just the other day the other one fell out at 35k. he luckily is still under warranty and is going in this week to get it fixed. it might be worth a shot taking it to the dealer to see if they will help you out..

My strip on the driver's side is popping up a little. I better get it checked before I hear a thud too. I don't think Mariah Carey will be playing in my car though....

I thought there would be a cold weather connection, but it doesn't look like it. I will keep an eye out for mine. Too new to tell yet. Sorry for the problem, but it shouldnt be too bad to replace it.

Same thing happend to me. I took it in and they just replaced them for free. I guess they said it was a know issue on the 08 models. When they put the new ones in, they put some sort of adhesive to keep them there. Even though its out of warranty, let them know its a know issue with these cars and they should just replace them. Good luck!

Good to know they will replace it, happened to my wifes about a month ago. I was thinking it would be cool to replace it with a clear one that could be lite up

I had my drivers side molding fly off a couple weeks ago. The thump on the roof startled me and I saw it fly off in the rear view mirror. Dealer replaced it free of charge, but took friggin' 3 hours to do it.

If this is a "known" issue with the 2008, is there any info on why it isn't on the 2009?

What's the preventative solution -- pull it up, put glue in the holes, and push it back down again?

I'm going to try and find time to go to the stealer this week. Might go there twice, trying to get a TSB done on my Tacoma. If they won't do anything, I'll report it to Toyota, otherwise, I hope it's not too expensive.

well, I got it done.

and its weird, the driverside trim now hangs OVER the window trim, and the passengers is behind it!

I cant tell which way is supposed to be right! GAH!

Is there a difference in length between the two? That is, is the replacement driver's side strip longer than the original (ie. passenger side?)

Also what does "hangs OVER" mean. If the front of the strip is not in contact with the roof (extends beyond the window trim), then it sounds like a fit problem. Could you possibly clarify what you are seeing?

Thanks

they're the same length. in the same place. just the drivers side has the windsheild trim tucked under it... and the passengers side is in front...

its kinda hard to explain... and I dont have a camera! LOL! oye!

Default Mine is gone today!

Dang it! Walked out to my car today at lunch and noticed my driver's side is gone. What's up with that?
Called the dealer and they said they would look at it - luckily I have a year left on my warranty. Yep, it's a 2008.
I wonder - should I insist/demand that they fix/replace the passenger's side too?

Took these from my camera phone - so you'll have to excuse the quality.
I looked at several other cars in the parking lot and noticed that they all had their rubber roof seam strips tucked into front window's weather strip.
