Default Back Up Light

Backup lights usually provide a visual warning to pedestrians and other cars that you are in reverse. With a single light, in a low location, will the backup light be less effective as a visual warning?

Is there any other car with backup lights that are not at the same level as the tail lights?

Is there wiring in the tail light location to add an aftermarket light with regular backup lights?

Default Mini used too

"yes" the MiniCooper did have it low in the middle. But about two years ago they incorporated the reverse lights into both tailights and put a silly looking black plug down low where the single one used to be....odd.

In a fix? Need cash quick? Well, the next time you're at a stop light, and you see a nice car comming in for a landing behind you, jsut try the handy dandy new and improved, xB2 reverse sneak attack! They'll never see it comming, and you'll settle out of court for $1000's!

I'm not sure about the Skyline, but I know on some JDM and European cars, there is a single/asymmetrical light for fog.

I know on the t2B concept, the single reverse light was mirrored by the exhaust opening. At least it looked symmetrical. I guess they couldn't do the exhaust llike that because then they couldn't make money off of exhaust tips.

lok at the pontiac solstice, they are really pretty low. but if you want, you can always install a back up siren like school busses and cargo vehicles

come to think of it, why the heck don't over-sized suburbans and expeditions have back up sirens? i think they qualify for an additional warning given their size and are usually operated by inept soccer moms

Default Legality?

With all the stupid laws dealing with lighting (color, visibility, tint, location, bla bla bla) I am kinda surprised that the new xB reverse light(s?) comes like this. I predict many front to rear accidents are going to happen as a result of this. I wouldnt be surised if Scion pulls the same move the Mini Cooper did, lets just hope they dont put an ugly plug over it and instead give it an all new bumper.

I bet that toyota has to comply with all the DOT laws before releasing a new model. Do some really think that this feature will create accidents? How many accidents have you seen or head of because of this? And btw where the hell are you guys thinking of backing up, the middle of the highway? It has been proved that talking on the cell while driving creates a lot of accidents. Why don't we rant more on that. Scion tries to create different and innovative designs and if we keep complaining about ridiculous things, we will all end up driving the same homogenized vehicle.

Your right I am sure they wouldnt be able to release a model that didn't comply with all state and federal laws. I am just surprised that this one does (there are so many other laws regarding lighting). Yes I really do think this feature will cause some accidents. I have seen 0 and heard of 0, but then again I have also seen 0 new xB's in person and know 0 people with new xB's. You can be backing up anywhere and be rear ended if the other person isnt paying close enough attention, doesn't have to be the middle of a highway (or even have one reverse light in an odd place for that matter). Why am I not ranting about cell phone use? Well...that would just be completely off topic, wouldn't it? I think these cars are different enough without this feature. My two cents is if they had just added another light on the other side of the bumper, it would still look different and cool, and also be much safer.

I read somewhere that the reverse light on the xB2 might actually be a fog light, which would explain why it is soo bright.
