Check engine light issue.
Whats up guys, its been a long time since ive been back on here. But recently i have been having issues with my car. About 2 months ago, i had a check engine light on with the skid control VSC lights going off. So i took my car into toyota, and they stated that on the error read out that its an issue with the MAF(mass air flor sensor) and that it was stating that it ran "too rich?". Anyways, so what they did was clean off the sensor, i guess there was build up. And orderd a replacement MAF for my trd CAI. So a few weeks go buy after they clean the MAF, and noticed no problems. Then toyota calls and tells me the replacement MAF has come in and that they want me to come in and get it installed. Got it installed and everything has been cherry. Till last night, i went to gas up the car with 0 miles left in tank. After filling up, i pulled off and noticed the engine light, VSC, lights were both on and flashing. I kno that some times after you fill up if you dont properly close the gas lid it goes off with a check engine light. But i checked out the gas cap and it was secure. So today im going back to toyota to get the error code off the car. Hopefully it was the gas cap, but with my luck they are going to say MAF is showing that he car is running rich, which i find really funny.
Anyone else have this issue?

I had a similar one, I had buy a cheap CAI on Egay! and when I install it came the same problem, the VSC light and the check engine appears, one week later I decide to put the factory system and the lights turned off so I think is the huge amount of air that the CAI let in, so ____ it up, put the CAI again and the lights appears so decide to live with them flashing always.
P.S. My english is so bad!!!

Month ago I had the CEL....
Went to autozone and pull the code, it was running rich..
I don't even have aftermarket intake...
Next day when I turn it on, it was off, but few min later it came back on..
As of now, my car is getting audio installed so I haven't had chance to goto the dealer...
Last time when I went, which CEL didn't turn on..
They said they can't do anything about it and come back when CEL is on...
Hopefully it's just the MAFS problem.

If you have a laptop you could buy a OBDII-USB scan tool for ~$40, download some free software and read/clear all of your CEL codes.
Don't wait until you're running on fumes to re-fill the tank. It can and does cause problems. The most likely code you guys are getting is P0101 (MAF out of range).

With the CEL flashing, there's a misfire code in the computer for some reason. The CEL only flashes when there is danger of the cat destruction. Could be a MAF problem still as the MAF control pulse. Are the TRD CAI filters oiled
Anymore on this issue? I have the same issue. I just had a Ravelco anti-theft system installed, it ran good when I drove it from work then to a friends house, 1 hour ride. Then i went home and when I was passing up some cars on a turn the light came on, Check Egine light, traction control and the vcs off light is flashing.
I have a CAI and i replaced the catted reso with a generic 13" reso.
after that between 1-2k rpms it kinda boggs down when i step on it..lol right after 2k tho it flys
also have the VSC light flashing its the p0101 code like every one else is getting. Friend has a scan gauge i clear it every now and then... Not worth it to put the stock reso on again

Yesterday I popped open the hood and found a plug hanging near the intake. I plugged in back together and the lights did not go off. I took it to the dealer, they reset my ecu and that was it. They said it was the evap sensor. I guess the ravelco installer didn't let the plug snap it into place and when I hit a bump the plugs lost a connection with one another. Thanks for the help.
I've gotten CEL again..
So I went to the Toyota dealer few days ago..
They've checked and said problem with MAFS..
So they'll be replacing them when the parts come back in tomorrow..

MAF or MAFS = Mass Air Flow Sensor. Toyota has an electronic control logic that almost always sets the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) light whenever the Check Eng Light is set. Reason?.... The engine control system is having a problem, so the VSC is shut off so it will not make wrong inputs due to bad engine control data. Several OEM's do that.
If the code keeps comming back for the MAF after a CAI is installed, then the CAI has changed how the MAF is reading the intake air volume. Other possible reasons...MAF sensor contamination from poor filtration, MAF sensor in backward (if possible), MAF sensor calibration and CAI volume do not work together (missmatch).
I would think that the TRD intake would work, but it is also possible that a re-calibration of the MAF signal to the ECU (main computer) has to be done at the dealer to correct for a changed intake air volume.
MAF sensors are way too sensitive and that can cause issues from aftermarket parts. I hope this gives a little insite to the problem. Dealers will never tell you anything that helps you understand. I always tell my customer's as much as they can handle, so that they understand what cost them so damn much in the end. The auto repair world is getting very tough due to high price repairs, and a major lack of understanding as to what went wrong in the first place. People just feel like the are getting screwed. Unfortunate truth.

Full tank of gas only gives me like 200 miles..
So they I've left my box there for 1 day and they replace the wire loom
Got it back, so CEL as of now..
From the receipt
- Cause P0172
- Parts replaced : 82121-12J10 Wire, Engine
I've looked at the dealer receipt..
Parts were like $800+ and labor was like $250
But all done under warranty...
Had the rental car for 1 day....
Good service overall...
