dash light problems with 08 xb
My 08 xb is in the shop for a dash problem. When i turn on my parking or headlamps. My radio as well as my dash lights drop out. So i had the dealer check it out on monday the 10th well they tell me on wednesday the 12th that its a board problem and it would be fixed on friday. friday they tell me that the part is on national backorder and it could be weeks or a couple months till this part comes in. first of all is anyone having or had this problem. Number two, how can the part not be available. can't they just pull this part from the line and send these out. The only real thing that has me griped about this is that im paying on a car that i cant even touch Yea the cost of the part and labor is covered as well as a loaner car but to me for as much as i paid for this car it should not be having electrical problems. im not trying to sound like an ahole, i love my new xb, its definitely worth it, i enjoy it and i have no problems with the dealer or scion. But has anyone had this issue. and does anyone have experience on how long it takes for something like this to come off of backorder. and if it is a month or two (i dont want to sound nasty) i feel that scion should also cover the monthly payment till its fixed, its not my fault that its bad. I appreciate anyone's opinion(s) on this issue. again im not trying to sound like an ahole.

Did you check your setting on the dial? You know when it's night time you can adjust how bright your dash lights are in the car. Your dial may be turned down all the way. Check that first. Because what your describing is how the lights work. And if you want them bright all the time you turn the dial all the way up until it clicks.
rdfxb I'm pretty sure it's not the dimmer adjustment if the dealer gave him a loaner and ordered a part.
Scott sorry to hear about the problem. I guess my thoughts are this. I have not heard of anyone else having this problem or anything similar. It sounds like an unusual situation. That usually makes parts harder to get. It may be something where they are having to get the part from Japan. With new models there are sometimes situations where parts are not readily available.
What did they give you for a loaner? If it is not a 2008 xB I would ask for their demo to drive until they get the part. Many dealers have one they hang on to as a demo. My local one has a BSP. If you can get them to give you that to drive, I bet your parts will arrive sooner. If they want it badly enough, they could get one pulled from the assembly line in Japan and delivered to the dealer in a few days.
You might even suggest to the dealer that you will be invoking the PA Lemon Law if it is not returned to you repaired within 30 days of when you turned it over to them.

One of those methods should get something happening more quickly. Good luck.

If the defect cannot be repaired after 3 attempts, or if the vehicle is out of service for a total of 30 calendar days for repair, generally, you may be eligible for a replacement vehicle or the refund of the purchase price, less a limited allowance for use.

When I worked at lexus in 98 the GS430 came out and on the first day a customer did 40K worth of damage to it on the $55K car. It took 6 months before the ALL the parts made it from Japan so they could repair all the parts.
Seems kind of strange to me as well, but that is a fact of life type thing. Hang in there and hope it gets fixed soon.
Yes that is very true. Fast moving rapid wearout or trouble parts are priority (I worked in a parts dept.) As this is a weirdo fluke thing. Just be patient. People scream lemon rapidly but they, as with american cars, have three attempts to repair it before lemonade. I would ask for an xb2 or at least a gen1 though. Fair enough seeing as you are making payments.

For PA if you read the link I posted, it says you can at least threaten them with the Lemon Law if they cannot fix the car in 30 calendar days as well as the three tries to fix it thing.
Bu if the parts are not available you can threaten with what? Pulling the part out of another car might not be an option for various reasons that I dont know of so I can say if that is possible. Plus it wouldnt be a new part....Im not jumping Roxor at all. But what is the dealer to do when the parts are not there for them to fix with.
I agree that they should be giving you something equivalent to drive in the meantime.

My parents own a 35,000 dollar car and they have major electronic problems involving the radio and dash. They said they got in the car the other night and everything was in french. My pops said it took him 30 min to figure out how to get everything back to English. So all cars can have there problems but it is sad to have a vehicle you have just purchased back into the shop already. Hopefully they will get it fixed for you soon.

I do not see any exception in the PA law for lack of available parts btw.
Bottom line: He just wants his car fixed.
It would make a great "hate-on-the-dealers" story if it was just the dimmer.
i am partial to agree with the dimmer switch and stupid people in the dealership, and maybe not even stupid people in the dealer ship just thinking into it too much and not trying certian things. such as assuming that the switch is turned up. i guess the question that has not been answered yet is did u check the switch urself? cause all the way down the lights do go off everything! honestly the switch will make all the lights go out including dash and radio. however if i remember currectly the high beem light stays on full brightness when the parking or head lights are on.
