I have noticed that the trunk capacity for the xB is listed as 11.6 cu. ft. for the 2011+ models & 21.7 cu.ft. for 08-10 models.
Can anyone comment on this or have any material directly from Toyota to clear this up?
I assumed there were not many drastic changes among the above mentioned model years. I could have mistaken.

That...I am not sure of either. There is no way that with seats down the cargo capacity is only 21.7 cu.ft. Remember the xB's full cargo capacity competes with some small to mid-sized suvs. I am referring here to *Trunk Capacity* which refers to the space available with the rear seats up. As stated it's 21.7 cu. ft. from 08-10 & 11.6 cu. ft. from 11-15. I am wondering why the drastic cut down on trunk space or were there some changes for standard measurement?

Actually I think your right SilentCool, the cargo volume should be a lot higher with the seats down. I think it something even simpler than that. Looks like a typo. Both the cargo and passenger volume are 10 cu. ft. smaller in the 2012-up listings above while the interior volume stayed the same. Not possible since the interiors are almost the same across all the years.

Not that numbers are extremely important here but I have read an owner's review of a second gen where he/she mentioned that his/her trunk space [seats up] wasn't bigger than the average sedan's trunk space. That has me sceptical and so I started doing more research. I'm more than 100% sure that there would be instances where I may need to carry a good bit of cargo with passengers. If this is the case then regretfully I would have to look at another vehicle. So I just want to make sure. Fitting stuff with seats down I know for sure would not be an issue.
Any further thoughts or opinons are welcomed. Thanks again!

What about putting a roof rack on the car and buy a cargo box? Or put a trailer hitch on and a cargo rack that mounts to the hitch? You could do the hitch/cargo rack for about $300 and the hitch install on an xB is so simple a monkey could do it, if you only need it a few times a year it would be a great option

That sounds about right. The bigger difference is that you have much better access to the space with the hatch and can stack things higher than in a sedan's trunk. It would all depend on what you are wanting to put back there. I used to be able to fit three full size suit cases in the hatch area with the seats up when my hatch was still stock.
