Fog Lights

Fog Lights
Has anyone with a xB2 done the fog light mod? Fogs on without headlights.
I found the one a xB1 owner did, but could not find if someone with a xB2 has done it.
My Focus was real easy, just pull a relay out of the fuse box and run a jumper.

This is a DIY for the tC, but the concept would be the same for the xB2.

Thanks Cionide. I guess I'll see if I can find the relay and give it a shot. I wouldn't think it would be to far from the switch.

There's another reason too, the combination of low beams and fogs help tremendously when driving in fog and other precipitation conditions. Fogs at other times serve no useful purpose (at least in terms of driver vision). I would presume this application to be for some alternative purpose.

I don't know why, but it's illegal according to Cali vehicle code, and many other states.
Foglamps
24403. (a) A motor vehicle may be equipped with not more than two foglamps that may be used with, but may not be used in substitution of, headlamps.

Fogs only for DRL. Fogs with highs beams for better vision.
These back country roads down here get pretty dark and with the high beams and fogs on you can see down the road and whats around you on the sides.
Don't know why anyone would drive at night with just fogs.
Thats just silly don't you think?
Never had or heard of anyone getting a ticket because they had their fogs on without headlights. During the day that is.

I wouldn't think using them as daytime running lights, would be considered using them as substitutes for the headlights, would it? I think most people that would what to have the Fog Lights on a separate switch would be for looks only and they wouldn't be used by themselves at night.

Well, it depends on how you wire them. I have PIAA driving lights on mine, which came from my old ride. Their set up allows you to just tap into the parking light line, which allow you to run the driving lights on at the same time as the parking lights, and then you can turn on your headlights later. Many people who have their driving lights like that will run their parking lights with driving lights on around dusk when the are cruising. But even that is illegal, but since it isn't completely dark yet, I don't know if the cops will truly bother you unless you are doing something else wrong. So if you wanted to hook them up to run as daytime running lights, you would just have to find the right power line that allows you to switch on the lights, or run the parking lights on at the same time during the day. Switches come in all sizes and shapes and are rather easy to mount and wire up. Just remember to turn them off, don't want you to walk out to a dead battery one day cause you forgot. Some cars have a reminder ding, to let you know you left your parking lights/headlights on.
And as far as the law goes, I believe it has something to do with that driving/fog lights don't project as far correctly as regular headlights. And if they are aimed up high enough to see, they would blind other drivers.
