I'm not sure what to desribe this as, other than myself filling up last week. I reset my Trip A meter, just to see what i was really getting city, and have driven 17 miles since then. (Filled up last thursday). I havent been driving much, i know. Either way, i step into my car today, and i see my meter is a little above my 3/4 tank line. after 17 miles???? I cant fathom how that's possible. I smell no leak, see no leak, and i'm the only person with my key, so nobody took my car for anything... was a rippped off with watered gas at the pump or should i go to scion?
Well, it did not evaporate, and watered gas would have made it run bad. Fill it back up and see what happens. If it does it again, take it in.
Mine takes between 95 and 110 miles to make 3/4 left

My current tank is going away really quickly, but I had no choice but to fill up at a known 10% ethanol station. Car is using it up quickly!
Tank before was nice and slow, 340miles to the ODO and still had 2+ gallons left...

Man I thought I was the only one with this problem. There are quite a few times that this thing eats gas really really fast.
The only thing I could come up with is I probably pumped some bad fuel when I do get bad gas mileage.

it may be that the pumps are not calibrated properly. It could also be that you pumped on an incline which would make the car think it was full when it really wasn't.
most often it's the particular pump not being calibrated accurately. if it has been very hot where you live, there is a possibility that you pumped in the morning, and had some evap loss over the course of the day as temps increase and warm the tank, which would make the fuel expand and evap.
or it may just be bad gas....

i dont drive aggressive, and i rarely get past 3000 rpms. When i bought the car it was telling me that the avg was at like 17 mpg(first owners mustve been city drivers just like me...)... and i drive stop and go everywhere as of now. Since then it's gone to 15.9 but in no way to i drive aggresive. I recently put new rims and tires on, could that have anything to do with it? I'm gonna see what i really get out of the tank. It was a Gulf stationNot sure how i can increase my MPG on city if there's even a way..
bad gasoline isn't going to cause you to lose 1/4 tank in 17 miles.
Not getting it full is going to cause you appear as though you have lost gasoline if you believed you had a full tank.
Once it clicked off, did you try to pump it again or did you just assume it was full after the first click? a lot of times, the backpressure of the tank can click off your filler before it's really full causing you to not get a full tank. 1st gen's had this problem to the point they replaced fuel tanks because of it.
If this is the only time you've had this problem then I'd say it's fluke and you'll not likely see it again. If it happens more times after this and you're sure the tank is full, then you need to have it looked at.

the 2.4 liter engine is perfectly fine engine. the reason why the scions get fairly poor fuel econ with it are 1. driver habits, 2. short gearing for better acceleration. the engine is a fine match up for the car.
What drax said the 2az-fe is capable of getting good gas mileage. My last road trip I averaged 29 mpg going 75-80 mph. If we had a taller 5th gear or a 6th gear Im sure I could net low maybe even mid 30s mpg at that speed.
I agree with drax. The 2.4 litre is a great engine with plenty of power. I took a few hundred mile trip with 4 adults and got 30.5, with some stop and go. Only time I get less than 27 is when I do a lot of lead foot city driving.
I think its a great match and makes the car able to get out of its own way.
