Default Greetings

Hello everybody! I've been lurking and learning here for about a week. I just purchased my first Scion xB. It is a 12 and I traded a Tundra for it. My oldest son owns a first generation but he hasen't snubbed me too badly.

It appears I choose the right forum. I ran across several but found this one to be what I have in mind. Very informative and enlightening. I hope to tap into the collective knowledge and perhaps add my 2 cents when and where I can.

Welcome to the forum. I attend three, but I consider this to be the most mature. Maturity lends perspective, and that works for me !

Here's hoping you enjoy your new ride !

Thanks for the welcome. The mods will begin shortly. I've extensively modded my Triumph TR6 and hope to translate my limited knowledge to the xB.

I have noticed a marked lean on sweeping turns and a severe lean on tighter corners which I'd like to reduce. Would the addition of a rear sway bar tend to reduce the roll?

I have a set of TRD springs on the way which I'll install myself after hearing the dealer wants nearly $500 for labor. I also have a set of TRD wheels (19's) to use as a baseline. The steelie's will be fine for the winter but that's only 3 months out of the year.

I normally only do one change at a time to evaluate the performance of the "upgrade" and am leaning towards the rear sway bar as a first step. Is this thought out of line for this car?

Check out TRDSparks for discounted parts pricing. There's also a Toyota/Scion dealer in, I believe it WA, that has slightly better pricing not offset by shipping if you're about the Left Coast.
The (TRD) rear sway bar definitely helps negate roll but, since you're doing the springs also, might as well invest/install in a front strut tower brace while you've got the towers disassembled. I'm running same and that combo will let you corner like you're on rails and you won't have to worry about bottoming out on anything.

If you really want to corner like you're on rails, spend a little more and get the Hotchkis front & rear sway bar set instead of just the TRD rear.

Definitely install a rear sway bar, but take your time on a front tower brace, unless you're especially serious in your direction changes, it's probably a waste of cash. My personal experience is the TRD rear sway bar performs very well, lowering springs also have a major impact on body roll.
