Most likely the seatbelt rattling into the B pillar.

Just tuck the clip inside where the belt retracks inside the pillar and no more sound (if that is the issue).

May I ask why you went from a 2008 to a 2009 xB?

Secondly, people have reported a B pillar creak appearing, similar to the A pillar one in sound, just different location. Maybe take it in and let them find it, IF you trust them.

Try cleaning an lubricating the weather seals for the doors with a silicon spray. Only thing else in the liner is wires for the dome light.

Since the weather turned cold, I've been hearing a popping sound on my passenger side, towards the front. Don't know if it's the dreaded a-pillar creak or not, but it only happens on certain bumps. It almost sounds like the glass is loose or something. Weird. It wasn't so bad on my way in to work today. I guess if it gets worse, I'll have to take it in. *sigh*

Ya know the colder weather will cause some plastics to get stiff. Been reading about a rattle in the xB in the dash around the glove box and I never had it until last week when the weather started getting cold.
Good luck finding that little gremlin!

When I had my headliner out I tapped on the grommets that hold the side air curtains in place and I thought that was where the sound was coming from. I put silicone around the metal grommets but that didn't fix it. It sounds like its coming from the plastic piece that slides up and down above the seat belt adjuster in the B pillar. Its driving me crazy because mine does it on passenger and driver side sometimes.

You know there are electric operated shoulder and seat belt tensioners in the columns which react to G forces and lock. You might try yanking on the belt when you hear that sound and see if the belts are locking. Being colder the shock absorbers get stiffer and it may be just enough to make a rough ride trip the tensioner.

I cant hear anything when my deck is turned up and my sub is killing my ear drums.... But for real I had a rattling noise from my passenger side A-pillar and found it must have been a loose clip from the dealer...
