Default How to avoid paint scratches under a Yakima roof rack

Aloha, so I am trading in my xB for a new one. My old xB has scratch marks under the roof rack, and I really want to try to avoid it on the new one. Btw. there is no way around having a roof rack....surfboards comes first.

Right now the racks only have the tape that the rack comes with.
Any ideas?

Thx

ps. I'm picking up my 2011 xB on Saturday or Monday. Yay.

What about those clear bra materials they put on the front end of a car?

Clear bra on the roof where the Q-clips attach, and put the black vinyl stickers that Yakima provides for the roof on the Q-clips themselves. Double protection.

I already have the vinyl stickers on. The clear bra seems like a good alternative. Thanks guys. Now I just need to find it :-)

I got my little clear bra rectangles from a local tint shop that does clear bra installs also.

Good tip. I'll check it out.

Did you use your under the roof rack? I read a review and it seems that stuff it pretty sturdy.

The car will be treated with the coating for paint protection, so I don't need the clear bra on the car overall...anyways, thanks again.

So stoked to get the 2011 :-)

btw. I chose black..but thinking maybe white is just as nice. White looks kind of storm trooperish.

The clear bra pieces are above the doors, where the Q-clips clamp onto the body. I don't have anything under the rubber pads on the main towers.

Ok thats what I meant. Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it. I can't wait to get the car Monday or Tuesday. I chose black. It looks pretty in evening time. I probably would have gotten the dark blue if they had one in. Looking forward to the USB connection and the new car smell.

Think I'm gonna get a small electrical vacuum. Too much sand in this my current one. :-)
