I want some of what you're smokin'. Seriously, some insurance companies offer an optional windshield rider, that can cover 100% of the replacement cost, but it is an additional premium added to your policy. It's usually not that expensive (check with your own company for rates and availability) and could be a really good idea for owners of cars that attract rocks, such as our own xB's.

On a related note, most insurance companies do not raise your rates for comprehensive claims. While you are usually obligated to pay the deductible, your annual rate shouldn't go up. This means the windshield replacement isn't usually "free", but there is no rate penalty either. Hope this clears things up.

Not sure on the details, I'll have to check on them again. I know she didn't have to pay a penny, she's with Allstate and I read over her policy, she didn't have any optional windshield coverage. She called them up, they came out and replaced it.

PS. I don't smoke but if I did I'd share

Right at $50/month, with a $250 deductible and uninsured motorist coverage.

EDIT:

This is with State Farm Insurance by the way...

So if I'm paying about $400/mo on my 2008 xB, is something wrong?

I'm 18, under my parent's Allstate coverage in Tucson, AZ. At the dealership the salesman tried to get me a quote.... from Progressive, I believe, it was $480/mo. *sigh* a $200 one would be nice!

You're 18 and a male, thats why your rate is so high right now. I don't think it drops for males until mid 20s, maybe early 30s. Not entirely sure though. Also if those two tickets are outstanding it might make a big difference on your insurance too.

Rates don't drop significantly until you're around 35 years of age... Its also based on total years driving, and how many violations you have on record though. I've not had a driving infraction since 1995... lol

I think I'm WAY overdue!

You all should be happy. I pay $2K every 6 mos. for the bare minimum coverage with Mercury (I have a really bad driving record...about 3 pages long).

in MA, glass is "free" meaning no deductible...guess I've never looked into exactly how this works...but if any window needs replacing, it is always 100% covered by insurance...in MA, glass is included in comprehensive insurance.

Yup, I'm in MA too...always been that way, never had to worry about the $ of replacing a window...of course our insurance costs are sky high to begin with...so we "pay" one way or the other...
