Default Just Hit 50k, got questions....

Hey Guys/Gals

Been a while since I been on the forums...just busy with work and life that the car has kind of taken a back seat when it comes to modding and the whole car scene in general...(Dont get me wrong-its my DD and I do try my best to take care of it to keep it running to specs)

Anyways enough driff draff...So I have been giving my car its usual Oil change Mobil 1 and tire rotation but besides that I have had no major issues with the car at all..I have originally purchased the extended 7yr 100K bumper to bumper day I bought the car...but to date (knock on wood) I have not needed to take it in for any repairs...With that said I just hit 50K on it and was wondering what are some of the things I should consider looking into replacing or getting looked at..all I have been told by the shop where I go was that my next service should include getting the tranny flushed but thats it!! So figured I come on here and get some pointers or suggestions from the crew...and if you have any information regarding how I can milk the warranty since I paid for it even better LOL

Info about the car:
2010 XB purchased 8/09 with 4 miles
Currently 50k as of 9/12

Oh if its worth any info...only mod the car has on it now is lowering springs (Eibach Sportlines)...everything else is stock, sad I know but sold off allot since work is mostly highway commute and like I said have had 0 time to keep on top of the scene so its more my DD than anything else right now

whaz's up Jay.....

You have a B 2 B warranty 7 years. I thought is was insurance for the car if something requires REPAIR only + does not normally cover maintanance. So you would not be able to milk the warranty unless you physically break something + have it replaced/fixed by a mechanic. And that...is up to your imagination on what u could get away with + have the car still drivable to bring to the shop.

Otherwise, are you allowed to bring the car to any mechanic + they reimburse you..... If so this could be in you favor to possibley get items magically replaced (brakes/rotors, shocks/strut, water pump, alternator, belts etc) by a friend mechanic during your warranty period and remit the bill.

Me personally, Depending on the car, I would not normally buy that type of warranty if you have a good car brand history. The odds are not in your favor of a major repair. These are just some of the aftermarket extras that the dealer or insurance makes money on or they would not offer it. Remember, the're in business to make money.

Good luck......

Hey Jim,

How the heck are ya!!!

Been a long time man, thanks for the info...Yea when I got into the whole Scion thing I really had no idea what I was getting into and as a precaution got the B2B warranty but like I said so far so good and no need to claim a warranty repair to date...but yeah I did plan on replacing the routine maintenance items like plugs etc etc...just wondered if at 50k there was certain items anyone would recommend replacing or inspecting at this time.... (timing belts, drive belts, water pump, alternator..etc etc)

If you have run-o-the-mill tranny fluid then maybe.....if you run the good stuff like Royal Purple or Redline MT-90 full synthetic then once every 75k miles is fine.

Tranny flush wouldn't hurt.....get the aforementioned full synthetic (Redline MT-90 or Royal Purple). You might check the air filter or perhaps upgrade to an intake (get a little more power and/or a little better gas mileage on your daily driver), change the wiper blades and fill the fluid reservoir, make sure the engine coolant is full, you might consider having the brake fluid flushed, upgrade the fluid and spend $90 or $100 on some stainless steel brake lines (makes a big dif on the xB . Change the spark plugs, check the fuel filter to see if it needs changing, recharge the a/c coolant if it's not fully charged.....that's all I can think of at the moment lol!

Owners manual will tell you all the required maintenance. Your next interval for anything besides an oil change is 60k.

And if i recall correctly, xB auto tranny doesnt get a flush until 100k miles, if manual every 30k miles.

^^ what he said!

PS. I've yet to come across any evidence that adding a CAI improves gas mileage on a modern car. I have a CAI myself and it made no difference at all to mpg (unless I accelerate harder in which case mpg drops).

PPS. The OE brake lines will perform securely for a long long time, no need to replace them with SS lines unless you just happen to want to.

Yea I had checked that and you are right the manual does not specify anything up to the 60k mark, but then again I think the manual is based off normal day to day driving in which 90% of the my cars life is used for commuting up to sometimes 200 miles a day...excessive I know but this is the reason for my OP just cause this is prob one of those extreme cases where the car has more wear and tear than the average B....but thanks for the info!

Upgrading to SS lines is on my list for sure....also getting a nice set of Cross Drilled and Slotted rotors with some high quality pads... no not the TRD BBK but almost as good... not to happy with my OE brakes and rotors and with the constant commute I hate the grime and amount of dust these OE kick up onto my wheels....lol but thanks Trevor for the insight I def appreciate it man!!

Would highly advise not to do ss lines unless its a track car. Is just not needed unless you want to throw money away. Then you still have to flush and bleed the lines etc.

Same goes for the drilled/slotted discs. You will create more dust with those being like a damn cheese grinder lol. In my experience I've warped these rotors more often on my car and stock is the way to go. Unless you want to do it for the looks...but its your car do what makes you happy!

hmmm very interesting...thanks for that info.... Yeah I have used R1 Concept products on my old car...never had issues with their products...only reason I was going to do it through them is because I like their rotors and pads and it was more minimal dust and grime on my wheels...but def gonna take your input into consideration thanks man!!!
