Unhappy Key replacement advice for a 2009 Scion XB.

Hello there,
I found this forum because my family and I need some advice on replacing a key for a 2009 Scion XB.
Pretty sure it is a 2nd gen? The car belongs to my wife and she has had it since 2009.
The backup key was long gone before we met and now the main key has broken.
Dealerships seem to be pretty expensive so I was wondering if there were any alternatives.
For making a new key(s) and or DIY info for the programming that is.
Thank you for reading.

Hey and welcome!

In short, you can buy an inexpensive key on ebay/amazon and have it cut in any hardware store. Scion xB keys are NOT chipped.

The only important and expensive part is the actual fob remote. They key itself and cutting it should cost you a few dollars.

Example:

$7.95 for two cases.

Buy this pair on ebay and then deive to your closest hardware store. They should charge you a few bucks to cut it. Once you get the key cut, just transfer the remote innards and that is it.

Hope this helps!
