Well toyota is releaseing a new matrix, and it will have the same engine in the tC, xB2 and camry, all I gotta say is wow it is sharp looking and I really like the yellow one.

Still not a Toyota fan, they seem just vanilla to me. Go figure. I hope they don't keep diluting the Scion formula.

I had the Gen1 Matrix and I don't care for the new Matrix at all. I thought they would've done much better with the redesign. This time around it switched places with the Vibe with the new Vibe being the better looking of the twins, but more power to you. It's still an all-around good car. I'm glad I didn't wait and got the xB2. I like it so much more. I also hate that they kept the hard plastic cargo floor. Such a pain in the a$$. I also think they 2009 Mazda3 5-door redesign will far better than this one.

Is that the same color as the 5Axis gold?

From what I've seen so far, I definitely think the new Vibe is the better styled of the two - just as the old Vibe was better looking than the old Matrix.

Advantages of 2009 Matrix over 2008 xB:

Telescoping steering column
Availability of 1.8 motor
Availability of 5-speed auto trans w/2.4 motor

i like it... but maybe just cause its new... but i like the new corolla alot better... I just wish they would make a 2 door version of it again in hatch form... maybe with a RWD.. but we all know that would never happen again...

The XRS models will be coupled to the 2AZ-FE. But I sure hope they plan on upping the output of that thing, the XRS's I'm sure are meant to compete with the Civic Si and the Sentra SE-R, both of which make 200hp.

From what I've read Toyota plans to leave these things with 158hp, which will be meager compared to the competition. It seems like a waste too, the outgoing Corolla XRS made 170hp and was mated to a 6-spd manual, now it looks like they're going for a 158 with a 5-spd. Why would you do this to us Toyota?

The bad about the vibe is it looks like every other pontiac from the front.

The AWD model would be the only one I would consider.

Well whatever it is, it looks better than the Matrix front. The new Matrix front looks like a cross between a StarTrek alien and a Camry Solara. Yuck.

Why not just buy the Impreza right now? It's got the same disproportionate shape. Space behind the rear seat is definitely smaller than the current Matrix. The Corolla can probably haul more than this thing. Obviously, I won't be buying one.

Availability of 5-speed auto trans w/2.4 motor
from the small brochure i got at SEMA, the 5spd auto trans will only be for the 1.8ltr engine
the outgoing Corolla XRS made 170hp
thats using the old hp rating system -- would be 164hp using the new SAE rating
still with a weezy 130lbs of torque.
the 2AZ-FE is the better engine -- comparable hp and much more torque

pictures don't really do the new matrix any justice. seeing the red one at the SEMA display, it bares a strong resemblance to the xD from the side and rear - with some design cues of the camry and xB for the front

comparing the new matrix with the mazda3 instantly dates the 3.

From Toyota's press release:

"Matrix models powered by the 2.4-liter engine with five-speed automatic transmission will have an estimated EPA fuel economy of 21/29 city/highway mpg."
