Default Manual Shift Boot Swap to a Auto

I am interested in taking the shift boot from a manual xb to a auto xb. Has anyone tried this before? If so, how did it work?

Thanks.

i did it a couple weeks back instead of popping into the shift column it pops into the piece around that center peice (the piece with the hazard button

the boot is about $40 from the parts department i bummed it off a friend that bought a spare to get re-done in suede. it doesnt fit that great cause the "throw" of the shift **** is much greater than the manual..

hope the pic helps in explaining what i mean about not fitting great

bigger so the forum ***** dont hate on me for posting a huge pic: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2216/...b6fefb7e_b.jpg

I do like how it looks. Regardless, I believe you are correct about the boot not fitting properly. It looks like it fits 'OK' but does it slip off at all? I have the stock shift **** for the xB right now.

it doesnt slip off but as you can see at park it looks kinda retarded. in any other gear it looks pretty normal. its not a real leather is more of that vinyl thing so its quite stiff and stays up like that on its own

i think what it is supposed to come with is a ring to keep the boot attached to the shaft (?) in the manual so that it looks good. i didnt take that from my friend so it just hangs around like in the pic. thinking about it if i were to get the ring it would tug the boot when in park and make it look even worse.

I don't understand why, WHY, anyone would do that. Get a manual if you want the shift boot.

Well thank you very much for posting so prompty. I do believe you saved me some money. I like how it looks, but when its in park, it doesn't satisfy what I would like it to look like.

Anyways, thanks again!

Haha, this is true. I love how it looks. Just spending $50 for it isnt worth it.

And tc4me...because I don't have a manual and I don't like the plate thats on there now. For S. FLorida driving, driving stick is retarded.

To each his own. I personally would not do that modification if it would cost me money. If you are able to do it and got the part for free, then so be it. Whatever floats your boat.

I live in So. Cal. and our traffic is one of the worst around, minus of course Boston & places like that. Stick isn't for everyone but I fell people don't appreciate its abilities.

But again, whatever floats your boat, to each his own.

Well I'm paying to have Lightning Auto do one for my automatic, they say it will look better then the picture. They ordered the boot from Scion and will work off of that, I haven't decided what color I want, I have an RS 5.0, I wonder if having gold leather will be to gaudy. ;)

Black leather with gold stiching would look awesome IMO.

Based on your suggestion that is what I ordered, I'm the first test subject for them with the new xB so I'll post pics when I install it, this will be my first mod. Then I move on to getting that spoiler.

For those questioning why anyone would do that, well I hate automatics, especially the way they look but had to get one since it's a car I share with my wife, and I already have a stick in my ancient but cool e12 M535i.

I feel sorry for the poor mechanic at the dealer that has to test drive your car.

"Where's the clutch?"
