Default Need to remove surface rust on rear brake rotors.

So last week we had some pretty bad thunderstorms and all that water caused surface rust on my brake rotors. I thought no big deal because once you apply the brakes it would remove it all, or so I thought....

WELL there is a thin line of rust that runs around the entire rear rotors (closest to the hub) that will not come off because the brake pads will not reach. What can I do to remove the rust off of them?

Rain happens, and as a result, rust on your rotors happens. You can either sweat it with every rain fall, or you can can accept it. One thing you can be sure of, if application of brakes doesn't remove it, then it has no mechanical/safety impact. If it really matters to you, just apply steel wool or garnet paper to remove it, however, expect to have to do it every time the rain falls !

So will the surface rust "eat up" the rotor if I don't remove it? That's the only reason I wanted to because I was worried of it damaging the rotors and I don't want to change them out any time soon.

Not a problem. You'll eventually replace the rotors, but not because rust made them fail !

Don't worry about it! I've had it for years, it's no big deal.
