Reeeeeee pooooooossssttt.

Has anybody yet encountered someone who DOESN'T like the new xB? Everyone I know who thinks my '05 is hideously ugly says the new one looks like a sweet innocent Rav4 puppy. Let's be realistic: nobody loathes the Gen 2 xB's. This commercial is two years too late.

Also, shouldn't the side airbags have gone off?

that commercial sucked. one of the best things going for the xB is that it has the best crash test ratings of any of the smaller cars in its class. That computer simulated impact made the thing look like a tin can. not giving the right impression. Granted that is probably what a wrecking ball would really do but bad idea.

Does that color and/or lip kit have a possibility of making it to production?

I know some people who don't like the looks of them. They're hit or miss with their target group when it comes to exterior styling.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Subaru Impreza has the best rating of any small car. The Scion xB is included in that class. The new one did well in frontal crash test ratings but wasn't rated for side impacts yet. The old xB did ____ poor on side impact tests.

yeah the old xB was ____ poor. The new one is 4 star front impacts and 5 star on side impacts. The imprezza was 4.5 front and 4 side. The WRX has no side airbags in the rear. It was probably the top pick in 2002 but there are some better cars out there now. The one that sucks is the honda fit. It have 5 star for everything except rear impact and side rear which is 3 star. So you are safe but your kids arent.

I'm going by the IIHS.org website where the 2008 Subaru Impreza was the top safety pick in the small cars class. It scored slightly higher in the frontal offset crash test than the xB did. I don't know what other institutions have found.

This is their test results for the '08 Scion xB frontal offset crash test. You can see why the Subaru scored slightly higher in their tests.

The Scion xB was redesigned for the 2008 model year. Its size and weight have increased sufficiently to reclassify it as a small car. (The earlier design was classified as a minicar.) Frontal ratings are assigned by the Institute based on a test conducted by Toyota as part of frontal crash test verification.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the B-pillar.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the head, neck, and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the right tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be possible. Head acceleration from the B-pillar hit was low.
and here are the frontal offset and side impact test results for the '08 Subaru Impreza.

The Subaru Impreza was redesigned for the 2008 model year. Frontal ratings are assigned by the Institute based on a test conducted by Subaru as part of frontal crash test verification. The frontal ratings also apply to the 4-door sedan version of the Impreza.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. After the dummy moved forward into the airbag, it rebounded into the seat without its head coming close to any stiff structure that could cause injury.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.

Injury measures:
Driver — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.

Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.

Head protection:
Driver — The dummy's head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof.

Rear passenger — The dummy's head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof.
I'm a Subaru and Scion fan so there are no losers in the safety comparison.

Oh well. I never got the point of the commercial. In my eyes, it just made the xB look bad.

the cars featured in the comercial were computer genereated so that custom lip likely does not exist.

ok this has to be said. yes people hate the 2nd gen. good case in point would be a select few of 1st gen people and a few of the places that reviewed it.
