I still love my 2011 xB (automatic), however, I am not getting the gas mileage I was expecting and am really disappointed. I am looking at both the avg mpg on the dash board as well as taking the measurement the old fashioned way. Both seem fairly close. I drive about 80% hwy with some hills and A/C. I drive about 70mph when on the hwy. I am getting 24.5 mpg consistently (measured on last 3 tanks). I know this is in the advertised range of 22 city and 28 hwy, however, I read a lot of persons where actually getting even better than what Scion advertises. I was expecting at least 26 to 27 mpg with my driving situation. My previous car (2004 Jaguar, 300 hp V got better gas mileage on the hwy. I don't have a lead foot either. This concerns me. Is this because it is new and the engine is still tight? What are you all seeing with similar driving situation? Will it improve?

 

I get around 28-29 MPG according to the gas thing on the dash, and I drive a mix of city/highway. I'm sure it has to do with the fact that the box shape doesn't help too much on the highway, along with the fact that you're using A/C all the time. I almost never use A/C unless I have to. Hills are also a big thing too....they strain the car a lot more than a normal straightaway. Finally, even if you think you don't drive like you have a lead foot, there is a chance that you do. Everyone has a different perspective on how they drive....people who say they have a light foot drive terribly for gas mileage. It's all about smooth inputs...

 

try other gas stations last time i want for mn to ga i avg. 70 mph and got 30 mpg

 

What kind of gas do you put in. Brand wise that is. Also what kind of octane do you put in. A lower octane will give you worse mpg. I have bigger rims and tires and I still get over 28mpg somehow

 

In my experiences, octane does not effect gas mileage. Where did you get your information for saying that octane DOES effect it? And what's the reason for it effecting it?

 

87 Octane, 10% ethanol. Chevron.

I did put on some aftermarket rims, MB Wheels (discount tire exclusive), "Octane" 16 X 7. Factory size and used the factory tires. I am not sure about the weight since there is no info on them on the net. If they are heavier than the factory steels, then that may be part of it.

Also, to make note that this vehicle is not very aerodynamic. That is evident when I let off the gas and get that "parachute" feeling of deceleration.

 

I have talked to several mechanics and I have done testing myself. 87 lowers it about 1-2mpg lower then 89. 91 raises it 1-2 above 89 and not sure on 93.

 

Damn you guys get alot of mpg. Im alright wih what i get 22-24. One gas tank i fill to 11.xx i overfill that shiot and i only get 270 miles per tank.

 

Try comparing different octane. I also always leave my mpg counter up. The one that is current based on where your foot is on the gas. Also do you have a BP or shell gas station in your area?

 

try running true gas, no ethanol. i noticed with my vehicles i lose mpgs anytime i use 10% ethanol. so i make sure the gas station doesnt have it and i also run 87 octane

 

I get about 25 highway with e85 and about 15-18 city on ethonal I make 400hp most I have gotten on the ethonal was 30 drive smart u will save

I stay at about 25.5, and thats prob 60% hwy 40% city. I have a few mods, run 93 Shell exclusively, and give it hell on regular occasion.

When I had a 80% hwy drive in Va, I was easily getting 28-29 off 87 Shell, before the mods. I also was able to gain 1.5 mpg's (25.5 to 27) just by running ethanol free gas, but can't find it anymore.

 

get a CAI bumps up a few numbers from what i've seen. went from 257 a full tank to pushing 320.

 

With a CAI and and Borla I went from 28-29 to 27 to "maybe 28 if I was lucky".

I'd recommend the OP not buy any perf part hoping it will increase MPG's.

 

I'm lucky to get 22.5MPG according to the dash computer. Going pretty close the the E line, I get ~215mi to a tank. Of course I live in Hawaii, the terrain is far from flat. And I live on a huuuge hill. :/ And my car audio weighs quite a bit...

 

yes and no. don't buy ***** nilly. I have had two xb2s both had improved mpg after i installed my intake. but maybe others have had similar success.
