Default Paint Problems with the new XB!!?!?!

I am getting really frustrated with the paint on this car.
First the second day i had it i got a decent size chip on the hood, almost cried when i saw it.
Now it seems like every time i wash my car i get more and more chips to add to the collection!!! Now i dont drive right behind semis or giant trucks or anything like that, i know how far to stay back.
And second the chips also are different, some go allthe way through, some leave a black dot and a bubble around them, others look like if you took a eraser and smudged the paint when it was drying!!
I am planning to get a clear bra put on but its getting to a point now where it might be a defect.
ill post pics if anyone would like
thanks for the comments/ suggestions

I have had zero problems ... but I don't drive close to giant trucks if I can help it and also avoid road construction and road debris whenever possible.

I can't imagine you'd have the problems you're describing unless your vehicle has been exposed to some nasty chemicals or there was a problem during the painting process when your xB was assembled.

In any case, I have not have problems like the ones you describe with my BSP xB.

Driving 2-5ft behind semi trucks increases gas milage almost 70%. MythBusters is my friend....

it's not a paint problem(s) per se , it's just very cheap paint job . all scions seem to have the problem. especially first gen xB's , xa's have it as well.

I live in Texas, I also live in an expanding area, so construction zones are normal. So far so good.

I had a piece of wood fly up and do some good damage to the front end of my Civic this week. Just don't drive too close to trucks.

I got more paint chips on the hood of my tC in the first month that I owned it than in the next 2+ years. I'm convinced that the paint was not fully cured and hardened when I bought the car. If my wife gets a new xB, we will definitely get a clear bra on it before it leaves the dealer lot.

Yup thats exactly what i was thinking, the way it was chipping looked like it wasnt cured. I couldve sworn that a bug caused a chip too!!

Well i called the dealer and told them that i wanted them to take care of it.
He said that i need to come in and talk with a service advisor.
Hopefully they can take care of it because i expect the paint to be at least totally cured when i buy the thing. i dont think thats to much to ask.
If the dealer fights me on this ill write a complaint and see where it goes from there

it is not the curing of the paint , lol. and if it is then it's going to be darn near the same on each and every scion ever sold.

it is a cheap car and it gets cheap paint.

the large vertical front of both first and second gen xB's does not help in the matter either.

the dealer will MUCH more than likely not fix it. at least not for free.

it is not a mechanical defect , it did not leave the lot with prior damage by them , it is not a warranty issue.

it'd be more of a quality control issue or just cheap paint of which toyota/scion would be resposible and would probably need a class action lawsuit.

cause bottom line is whether or not the paint isn't cured or is of inferior quality the chips are from outside forces.

but I do wish you the best of luck. some dealers will fix things like this in the hope of repeat buyers and high feedback/ references

I can understand "some" of the complaints about Scions in general and the new xB. As a new xB owner I have noticed some things that bug me about my new vehicle ... but the paint just isn't one of them.

Paint is ... well ... paint. It's not a super-hardened deflector shield from a science fiction film. It's just paint. If a truck in front of you kicks up a rock going 65mph and you're driving 65mph right behind the truck then the rock is going to hit your car with 130mph worth of force.

I'm pretty sure even the BEST paint in the world would take some damage if you shoot at it with a sharp rock going 130mph.

Also, people really need to detail their car when they first get home. Wash it with a good car wash/shampoo. Clay bar the entire vehicle to remove surface debris and stubborn particles of dirt like road tar. Follow that up with some cleaner wax, several coats of polish and sealer. Finish up with one or more coats of wax. Detailing your car (and doing a good job with the detailing) helps protect the car's paint.

Still, paint is just paint and it can only stand up to so much damage. It's not a problem with Scion it's just the way it is.

Will the paint rub off after waxing it excessively?

Only if you have NO idea how to correctly detail/wax a car.

If you use overly abrasive chemicals or abrasive cloths/applicator pads/bonnets then you could damage your car's paint. If you use really abrasive stuff it can be almost like using sandpaper on your car ... which will obviously damage/remove paint.

Again, this goes the same for even the BEST paint.

If you use good stuff and use it correctly then frequently detailing your car only helps to extend the life of your car's paint.

Forget rocks and bricks. Move to florida and discover lovebugs. Word had it an A-hole USF scientist let them loose by mistake several years ago. They get so thick some times that you cant get them washed off fast enough and it screws up your paint. Week old XB with paint screwed up. Hope every finish he has gets screwed up

I would get a clear bra with a heavy mil thickness .
we have a lexus in the family and the fist day got a stone chip. we drive away from truck.

Some states have tarp laws that truck hauling stones must be covered. My brother got slewed by a ton of stones a few years back and it ate his new honda. anyway, he sued the company for a new paint job.

I think its the road these days and the tire thread that sling rocks at super speeds, enough to do bad damage, I get away from A-hole dirty trucks that sling stones fast!
