I guess your CAI is not a TRD....

If Toyota can prove that the CAI caused the failure, it does void the warranty.

Keep your stock air box intake just in case.

no, the object is, if you have problems, put your stock airbox back in THEN take it in . Dont mention that you had the intake there (although they still would have to prove that it cause the problem)

From what ive seen and heard about Toyota/Scion they are more interested in protecting their image than looking to pass blame. Just recently they bought back a bunch of tacomas at 1.5x book due to rust issues. The long and the short of it is as long as the airfilter dosent brake and send a piece of plastic into the engine causing catastrophic damage, scion will stand behind their product. And if it did come down to a legal fight, it would be very easy to prove that scion encourages and supports the modification of their vehicles.

Sorry for not making that EXTRA clear for you.

Default Warranty

Basically, the law says that you can put any part on your car, that's made for your car, as long you do the install correctly. The only exclusions are when the manufacturer puts them in writing. If you do damage a part, then the warranty on the particular part is gone. If a dealer tells you that you have voided your warranty by adding a part, the law says that they must prove that your install damaged something on the car. They cannot just say you don't have a warranty any longer, they must prove it. You can find a lot of details by reading the Magnusson-Moss Act of 1979.
