Polk Audio
I have two polk GNX 124's in a box. the box sucks. so im looking at getting a double box or two singles so i can save space in my car. My question is what type of amp do i need to power my whole car? so that the subs are fine and the Pioneer deck still has jusice for the front AND rear speakers?
btw speakers in front and rear are infinity 6200I. Ill Speakers.
*also i think one of my polks is blown/damaged its makes weird sounds last time i hooked it up to something. Worth paying to get fixed? I got them off a friend whojust had parts layin around so i just scooped em up. Help?

i honestly wil be doing it all my self. and if i could keep it under 3-5 hundred overall that would be great. Im not going for competition, so i just need it to be a nice addition. *of course avoiding the weak sause would be great. i can even buy ____ used i wouldn't mind.

you can do better on the amp but this was a quick search and hifonics isn't bad at all, especially for the money. for less than $350 you'll get subs, a box for them, and a 5 channel so you'll be able to power your mids and highs better. the subs sound crazy good for entry level subs and need very little air space. hope that helps.

sweet. wouldn't i need a 6 channel amp? since i have 4 speakers and two subs? or is that not how channeled amps work? good stuff though. def. more effective than the other route i was looking at. any sort of wiring or connectors i would need that are special?
Also with that five channel. could i take my one good polk but it in a solo box and still use it? and have 3 subs?

both subs can be run off the subwoofer channel, just wire them in parallel to lower the impedance down to 2 ohms. if you don't know how to do it...

and you can't use the other sub with that amp. you'll fry it. plus it will sound like crap. try selling it for cheap and using the money towards the new build. doing that is the only reason i'm always upgrading my system.
as far as wiring goes, a standard amp kit should do the trick. 4 gauge will work fine. at most you'll need some speaker wire to hook up all the speakers and subs to the amp.
this is something you can totally do yourself if you take your time btw.

awesome. i'll look into other 5 channel amps as well. and of course wiring kits. get some manuals and i should be all set. thanks a lot super.
oh whats ur favorite style of box. ported/sealed or anything. i like the boxes you should.
lets say i had to haul some gear. would it be possible to dissconnet my subs (turn amp off?) and then hook it up after the run is done? easily and quickly.

i personally like ported boxes i make myself but that's because i like my bass pretty loud. sealed won't be as loud but will have more sound quality and less peakiness (typically, not always. depends on the sub). those re subs will sound better in a sealed box anyway so don't worry about it.
if you want it to be removable, just don't mount the amp on the box. then all you'll have to do is disconnect the speaker wire from the terminal on the box and you'll be good to go.
good luck and if you have any more questions, ask away.

cool. will do. Whats another amp you would recommend?? and how does this amp work? i thought one channel would go to the HU to provide more power i supposed. I think when i actually see it in front of me i'll know how to hook it up. just have to run wire everywhere and hide it. And thats good about the disconnecting
Im trying to think which would be more effective. a dual box? or two singles or wedges in the back angled in some way or fashion?
also what of this???

i personally wouldn't go with any of the options you posted. i hate sony subs with a passion and anything from dual is asking for trouble. that stuff is ___. the pioneer subs are fine but that amp is a little sketchy.
the amp hooks up easy. run a remote wire from the headunit, run rca's from the headunit to the amp, hook up power and ground, run speaker wire from speakers and sub to inputs, and you're done.
as far as the 5 channel amp goes, the hifonics will do fine for you, but if you want to get something that's gonna last forever and give you more than enough power, go with a kicker 5 channel. they make nasty 5 channels but they can get a little pricey. if you don't mind getting a refurb you can get them for a steal on ebay. i installed one in a friends car and it was pretty sick. tons of power.

nice!!! see i figure i can spend more on an amp won't be an issue. and thats awesome about how everything hooks up. What do you think is a good location to store the amp? i do drive like an F1 driver with withrdrawl symptons don't need it flying around. (maybe on top of the spare wheel?)
I'm either doing this first or i just learned about the Tenzo R intake. heard lots of good things. apparently i can just buy a higher grade filter and get a cheaper pipe of ebay and run with it. hmmmm i might have to do a poll soon.
Both are gonna happen. Btw thanks for all that help man. you make way more sense than the people at crutchfield that ____ was mad confusing.

you can put it on top of the spare as long as you build a sturdy rack for it. you have to screw it down somewhere so it's pretty much up to you. as long as you can put it somewhere where you can keep your ground short and the amp gets decent airflow, let it ride.
