Default R1 Concept front Cross Drilled/Slotted Rotors

I'm thinking about getting these, but wanted to know if anyone has an experience with them. I'm sure R1 will come out with the rears soon. Any stories to tell of these rotors?

Any particular reason you want drilled and slotted?

well, the weight reduction will be a plus. I want them mostly for looks. I love the way they look behind a nice rim. guess if no one has any experience with them, I'll go ahead and get them and let everyone else know.

Here's somebody else's experience with them:

Why not go with the TRD bbk?

Cool, thanks for the info! I called R1 and they aren't currently researching rears anyway, so that's a bust. That TRD kit looks cool though... wonder how hard that would be to put on. Shouldn't be to bad...

I guess with a BBK, I would just be worried about my rims fitting over them. I'm running 19" ASA JH8's.

Shouldn't be a problem, or they'd never sell any.

They're 13.38" diameter, which is 2.55" larger than stock.

Killer, on the phone now with my local Scion dealer to see what they'd charge for install. If it's to much, I'll just do it myself. I'd like to have the warrenty though.

I hate Toyota/Scion of Peoria. They won't install it unless I buy it from them. $1350. Guess I'll just do it myself.

Default I wanted these but not available for rear!

I was going to get a set of these too because I liked the way they look. Unfortunately, they said they do not offer them for the rear. Is it just me or wouldn't it look stupid with sweet looking rotors on the front and stock rotors on the rear? How dumb is that!

NoLimitz has some also:

http://www.nolimitzind.com/rotorxb08.html

Contact him to find out details. They replace the stock rotors (not a big brake kit), but I don't know much about them, or if he has them for front & rear, or just the front. Since these are stock replacement rotors, they also use the stock calipers, and don't come with steel braided brake lines or performance pads. At $200 a pair, they're a heck of a lot cheaper than the TRD bbk.

Brake rotors are made solid for a reason. If toyota thought it would be safe to slot or drill them, i think they would have done it.

Your best bet is to just buy the aftermarket rotos and put some EBS Yellow pads in there. Low dusting and great braking!!

If you want the looks i strongly recommend you look for dimpled rotors instead of cross drilled. Its been discussed on various automotive performance sites, cross drilled rotors tend to stress weak points in the rotors causing cracking under various conditions. Tough to say b/c when they are cross drillled, any number of things can cause the edges to become brittle or have internal cracks.

dimpled rotors provide the same heat dissipating characteristics while still maintaining the integrity of the rotor. Most of these cross drilled ebay rotor type of brands all have some random dude drilling into these rotors at some local plant in Santa Ana, Ca.

If you have the money TRD BBK! But most everyone is probably looking more on the budget side so I would strongly recommend bypassing the whole rotors, and use that money to upgrade to SS brake lines as well as getting some better brake pads. I'd take that combo over any crossdrilled / slotted rotors any day of the week!

that is all.....

PS.... plug for ATE Brake fluid or Amsoil brake fluids to get your brake on..... sadly this is often the most overlooked mod across the board....
